Looting and riots erupt in Mexico as gas prices spike 20 percent (trunc)

Protests over a sharp gasoline price hike erupted into looting of gas stations and stores in various parts of Mexico on Wednesday, with dozens of businesses reportedly sacked.

Protesters also continued to block highways, burn tires and seize gas stations, snarling traffic and jeopardizing fuel supplies across the country.

The National Association of Self-Service and Department Stores of Mexico said in a statement that 79 stores had been looted and 170 were closed or blockaded in central Mexico, including the capital.

The unrest 'resulting in the theft of merchandise put at risk the lives of clients and workers in the stores, primarily in Mexico State, Michoacan, Hidalgo and Mexico City,' the statement said.

In the Gulf coast city of Veracruz, 50 establishments including convenience stores, supermarkets and big-box outlets suffered looting, according to a preliminary count by the local chamber of commerce.

Store guards were overrun by crowds who carried off clothing, food, washing machines, televisions, DVD players and refrigerators.

Mexico is still a socialist country at its core. Which is the source of its problems - and the problems it causes us.

Only idiots and the divorced from reality look at that and go, “Hmm.. we need to bring more of that here across the border, give them citizenship while bypassing established law, and give them taxpayer funding!”

“The protests began after Jesus Zambrano of the leftist Democratic Revolution Party and other opposition leaders called on Mexicans to oppose the hikes by staging a “peaceful revolution.””

I have repeatedly written about the danger of Mexican society coming here. Over and over and over again. It is a society largely devoid of values. People here have NO clue.

The intent behind this move was correct, eliminate subsidies that benefit the wealthy. However the execution was to put it mildly, poor.

When a people are used to a subsidy, particularly of a critical good like fuel, you have to carefully phase out the subsidy instead of suddenly jacking up the price 20%.

The “protesters” are gov’t paid commies and are causing all sorts of disruptions across the country.

I have family down there and they are fed up with these antics.
