Joe Theismann rips 49ers for giving Colin Kaepernick an award,

..says all players should stand for anthem

Joe Theismann isn’t quite sure why the San Francisco 49ers gave quarterback Colin Kaepernick their most prestigious award, one that rewards “inspirational and courageous play.”

The former Washington Redskins quarterback was on Fox News’ “Outnumbered,” and said Kaepernick didn’t deserve the award. Kaepernick was given the Len Eshmont Award, voted on by his teammates, last week.

“You’re a 2-14 football team; he’s won one football game. What has he inspired?” Theismann said.

Of course this random criticism all comes back to Kaepernick’s national-anthem protest, which many people including Theismann didn’t agree with.

“I don’t agree with what he’s done,” Theismann said on “Outnumbered.” “As a matter of fact, the American flag…stands for the right to be able to do the things you wanna do, to be able to stand up and have a difference of opinion. I agree with that part of it, but not when you’re on the job.”

Theismann also called on NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to institute a rule that all players must stand for the anthem. It wouldn’t be unprecedented. The NBA has a league policy which states, “Players, coaches and trainers are to stand and line up in a dignified posture along the sidelines or on the foul line during the playing of the national anthem.” Surely Goodell has had plenty of people – perhaps some team owners – suggest to him that he make players stand for the anthem.

Even though Kaepernick’s season with the 49ers is over, the debate about his protest hasn’t ended.

American society collapsed to an extent under Obama’s little adventure in hateful leadership. Kapernick getting an award for USA and police hating while on a losing team is like the mayor of Baltimore getting her award for leadership while she urged rioters to destroy Baltimore.

Just plain silly, absurdity on parade. Thank God Trump can lead a renaissance.

Colin Kaepernick is exactly the kind of player who should get an award for “inspirational and courageous play” on a 2-14 team. LOL.

kap’s teamates gave him the award because it shows deep down they agree with him. He represents the sentiments of most his teammates. The teammates just all dont do what he does because they also know its bad for business.

The players voted to give him the award? They are just as idiotic as Kaepernick.

Anybody surprised they were 2-14?

Great job leading the NFL Roger Goodell.

CK reflects the views of billionaire owner Jed York, so the award is very fitting. York and Roger Goodell are the problem; CK is just a pawn.

It probably was a case of maybe half-dozen other players agreeing with him, but since the team was crap, the rest of the votes were spread far and wide - and the half-dozen votes were enough to win Krap, I mean Kap, the award. At least I hope this was the case.
Kaepernick is cancer - hopefully the Management can now dump him (and his other half-dozen comrades). I understand that due to his contract he was basically an Albatross tied around their neck all season. I don't understand why they played him, or why they didn't order him to stay in the locker room during the playing of the National Anthem.

They're the "San Francisco 49ers", playing in nearby Santa Clara. The owners are crap, yes. The team was the first to win 5 Super Bowl and has a long and great history, filled with great games and Hall of Fame players and coaches. The current players are not a talented group but they played hard this year, and the fans remain loyal fans despite the bad ownership. I'm one of them, as well as a season ticket holder, and I don't appreciate your insults.

That's true of every player on the 49ers, but the award is given every year regardless of record. I think Kaepernick is an immature dolt struggling to be socially relevant, but the award is voted on by the players, and they obviously felt he deserved it.

Joe, I believe his award was ‘MSP’, which is the Most Stupidest Player. The NFL will be having the Stupid Bowl the week before Cleveland vs. San Francisco. The game will be held at an undisclosed location, since no one wants to see it.

I was a 49’er fan since seeing my first game at Kezar in ‘57. The Niners died along with the ‘Stick. They’re the San Jose 49’ers now. When you give the Len Eshmont Award to the likes of Kaeperdick your team sucks from top to bottom. Period.

Period.

No - just your opinion. The stadium is great - leaps and bounds ahead of the decrepit mud pool that was Candlestick. The fans are great, too. The ownership sucks, but so did Chris Cohan and he's gone now. So will the Yorks be gone someday. And as for Kaepernick, he's almost certainly played his last game for the 49ers.

We no longer watch the NFL, purchase any NFL merchandise, or purchase products manufactured and sold by NFL enablers/sponsors.

The Anti-American PC NFL has no one to blame but themselves: They are the architects of their own irrelevance and destruction.
