'Russian hacking' in Vermont reportedly triggered by an employee checking his Yahoo account
Business Insider ^ | January 3, 2017 | By Michelle Mark

The suspicious code detected last week on a Vermont utility laptop that prompted fears of a Russian cyberattack was not linked to a Kremlin hacking effort, new evidence suggests.

Instead, the internet activity appears to have been caused by a Burlington Electric Department employee checking his Yahoo email account, The Washington Post reported Tuesday, citing officials close to the investigation.

The employee's activity reportedly set off an alert that his computer had connected to a suspicious IP address associated with the Russian hacking operation Grizzly Steppe, which Burlington Electric said it immediately reported to federal authorities.

But officials now say the traffic associated with the IP address was not necessarily malicious and could be found elsewhere in the country, according to The Post. . .

Everything is “hacking” to people who don’t know how to use computers.

The evil Russians needs to be repackaged as the stupid DNC people who are technologically illiterate and were led by Hillary who violated every security law in the book by setting up a private server for US government business in her closet. The FBI used her technical incompetence as an excuse to let her off the hook, which would never hold up in a court of law. Instead, Obama wants to start WW III to cover up their own incompetence. Just like the electrical utility issue, the individual opened the doors, no evil spy ring stuff, just carelessness and a disregard of how bad hacking is on the internet.

I love it when the MSM pretends to understand technology or security.

Imagine if you will, a poor working slob on a quiet night taking a break. He opens up his laptop and checks his email. Shortly after, he sreps out for a smoke and finds he started WWIII.

Welcome to the Obama Zone.

Checking Yahoo mail via a mail app or web page where the user initiated the check would not result in a “hack”. So the power company is lying. My bet is the guy navigated to what he thought was a porn site, but it was malware.

Where I used to work , they blocked all personal email accounts. They didn’t want people clicking on evil links in their email and infecting work computers. They set up free wifi that was not connected in any way to the company network, and told people they should use their phones for personal stuff.
