I love this comment:
Investigators are trying to figure out where the ATMs came from. It is unclear if they have money in them.

Cops have first dibs on jewelry store heists, (f'rinstance).

What's missing, Mr Owner?

I'll have to check my inventory ... it could take a day or so.

Its a lot of work to steal an ATM. They’re heavy and well bolted in.

Better off getting a job.

Or even selling stolen fork lifts.

There are quite a few choice clips on "World's Dumbest Criminals" TV show.

Evidently Australia has it:

Commonwealth Bank introduces “dye bombs” for additional security in its ATM’s

1 August 2006

The Commonwealth Bank today announced that it is enhancing its security arrangements for its ATMs by introducing "Dye Packs" following a significant increase in the number of ATM robberies affecting all banks. The Dye Packs render the cash unusable and stains the criminals and their vehicles with indelible ink.

The Commonwealth Bank’s move to place "Dye Packs" into its ATMs comes on top of the recent ABA initiative to offer a reward of $50,000 for information which leads to the arrest and conviction of criminals who commit ATM robberies and ram raids.

Mr Michael Cameron, Group Executive, Retail Banking Services said, "The Bank takes the disruption of services to customers and the protection of its funds and equipment very seriously and is not going to stand by and continue to see criminals get away with these ATM raids and the destruction of machines."

"The introduction of the Dye Pack is only one initiative that we have introduced and we look forward to continuing to work with the industry and the police to apprehend the criminals."

The Dye Packs are being placed in the Commonwealth Bank machines from this month providing them with this additional protection.

The Dye Packs do not affect the day to day operation of the machine and are no risk to Bank customers. The packs only come into operation if the machine’s security is breached.

Anyone with information which may lead to the arrest of suspects is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Then only to reaIize they didn’t have enough wall outlets so their greedy desire could thwart their max daily limit?   Missing a hard-wire Internet socket, perhaps?   Many sad.
