Why Aren’t There More Female Billionaires?
New York Times ^ | DEC. 30, 2016 | ROBERT FRANK

Women have been rapidly climbing the employment and wage ladders in recent decades. But only a small fraction have made it to the top rungs — and their progress may be slowing.

New research shows that after making big strides in the 1980s and ’90s, the number of women breaking into the top 1 percent of earners has stalled. Women account for only 16 percent of the 1 percent, a number that has remained essentially flat over the past decade, according to a paper by three economists. And they account for only 11 percent of the top 0.1 percent of earners.

The threshold for making the top 1 percent of earners in 2014 was $390,000, while it was $1.32 million for the top 0.1 percent...

...“The higher up you move in the income distribution, the lower the proportion of women,”... ...“It shows that there is a fundamental form of inequality at the top related to gender.”...

...cracking the “diamond ceiling” appears to be getting harder...

...suggestions for helping women reach the top. She supports eliminating “say on pay” rules that allow shareholders to vote on executive compensation, and eliminating shareholder advisory groups. “If shareholders do not like the pay a woman is receiving as C.E.O., they should simply sell the stock, and vice versa,” she said...

...she supports programs that bring more girls into technology and engineering programs. She is a big proponent of Dean Kamen’s First organization, which encourages boys and girls in such fields.

“I am confident that from the girls who participate in First we will achieve gender parity in top income generation over the next generation,” Ms. Rothblatt said. “The girl who can dominate a field of robots is a woman who can dominate a field of men.”

While we're on the subject of equality for women, let's draft them into the military, we can make sure men get custody of the kids and get paid alimony, make laws for rape and sexual harassment be applied equally....

If a woman is married to a billionaire, she is also a billionaire.

For the same reason there aren’t more women killed doing utterly idiotic, risky things. Women are not prone to taking the risks that men are often willing to take. It’s genetic. Seriously.

Since women make up 50.4% of the US population, it is only fair that they make up 50.4% of the self-made billionaires.

I think that Congress needs to move forward on this ASAP. The "Women Billionaires Equality Act." For every man who becomes a self-made billionaire, our government needs to create one self-made woman billionaire. /sarc

It looks like the NYT has just found the Civil Rights Issue of 2017.

Sexual equality in the billionaire class.

I want to know why men without college degrees and few skills are under represented in the billionaire class.

Can a wife help make a man into a billionaire? Yes, if she marries a trillionaire.

Aren’t most of the billionaires doctrinaire leftists?

Maybe the Times should get their opinions. After all, it should be evident that these proto-trillionaires have a vested interest in keeping their ranks clear of competition. All for me; none for you.

This is based on a public list. There are rich who are never on any list. Mostly security and they don’t need the pr.

No one gets to be a billionaire by working for the other guy or gal. If there are fewer billionairettes proportionately to the men, the babes need to look at themselves.

I guess “Robert Frank” thinks if the stats show it, then it’s GOTTA be SEXISM . . Same for race, too eh Frankie? What brown nosing. I guess he’s also never heard of something called The Mommy Track. I know tons of formerly professional women who got “derailed” career wise riding that train

And they’re damn happy they did

“I am confident that from the girls who participate in First we will achieve gender parity in top income generation over the next generation,” Ms. Rothblatt said. “The girl who can dominate a field of robots is a woman who can dominate a field of men.”

Once again they rail on about inequality of outcome, while most of us are worried about inequality of opportunity.

And Ms. Rothblatt neglects the FACT that humans (both men and women) are not slaves to their programming, and therefore are MUCH more difficult to "dominate" than people - male or female.
