High-tech washing machines and fridges will soon be used by detectives gathering evidence from crime scenes, experts have forecast.
The advent of the internet of things in which more devices are connected together in a world of smart working could in future provide important clues for the police.
Detectives are currently being trained to look for gadgets and white goods which could provide a digital footprint of victims or criminals.
Mark Stokes, the head of the digital, cyber and communications forensics unit at the Metropolitan Police told The Times: Wireless cameras within a device, such as fridge, may record the movement of owners and suspects. Doorbells that connect directly to apps on a users phone can show who has rung the door and the owner or others may then remotely,m if they choose, to give controlled access to the premises while away from the property.
All these leave a log and a trace of activity. The crime scene of tomorrow is going to be the internet of things.
The new Samsung Family Hub Fridge has cameras that carry a live feed of its contents, so shoppers can tell what they need when they are out at the shop. The dates and times that people logon to the fridge, therefore could provide alibis or prove people were not were they said they were.
Mr Stokes said detectives of the future would carry a digital forensics toolkit which would allow them to analyse microchips and

And if you put caviar in there, the Russkies can hack you.
Smart Home = Idiot’s Home
Yep, it works both ways. When the “state” is good, these networks help them/us, however, when the “state” is bad, well, totalitarianism takes on another, higher meaning. So who’s watching the police, then?
It won’t be long before government tries to regulate our diets: “Mr. Smith, we noticed your fridge does not contain the government required nutritional contents.”
In the last 5 years we have had to replace the fridge, washer, dryer, range. And only the range works well. The rest are Energy Star pieces of crap that don’t cool, wash, dry as well as the less expensive and better made 20+ yo appliances they replaced.
As for these so-called smart appliances: I will never buy one. I just want something that cools, washes, or dries efficiently and reliably. Nothing else.
Or...
“You have already taken out two cans of Dr. Pepper today. Sorry. Your fridge won’t open again until tomorrow at 7 A.M.”
“That’s your fifth fudgesicle today, Ms. Grubner. Access denied. We’ve enrolled you in health re-education seminars and yoga classes instead. Enjoy!”
Or,
“We’ve noticed you toasted some bread in the connected toaster. Due to your government required diet, you may not have any butter on that toasted bread. Your fridge is locked.”
Even worse:,
“We’ve noticed that your fridge has additional food that your government diet does not allow or is beyond your needs. Mr. Jones from da hood will be over to collect your extraneous food. Please have the following items ready for Mr. Jones to collect for his use...”
Oh hooray. The government is going to be able to check what I have in my refrigerator. I can’t wait.
A friend of mine got an Amazon Dot for Christmas. It’s rather creepy, sitting there monitoring our conversation. At one point I said, “Alexa, do you sleep?” It responded, “I don’t sleep, exactly.” Mmm-hmm. That’s what I thought.
That was hillary-speak from the beginning.
Considering that the voice nanny is continously listening and is linked to the net I would consider them quite suspect.
Or
You burned your toast. That released harmful particulates into the environment. The EPA is issuing a warrant for your arrest.
LOL! That, too!
“Whaddaya in fer?”
“Burnt toast. Fridge ratted me out.”
“Wireless cameras within a device, such as fridge...”
WhyTF does a refrigerator need a camera and an internet connection? Is it taking selfies and tweeting them?
I just bought a Samsung washer that explodes, just like the phones.
I guess that I won’t be traveling with it on an airplane any time soon.
