World War II tanks still in service in the world, video of T-34's in Ukraine and Syria, JSIII in Ukraine, SU-152's and 100's in Ukraine, Stuarts and Shermans in South America...
You use what you got.
Israel has a stash of Shermans in reserve as a last ditch resort
The Rebels in Ukraine raided the Museums and monuments, and managed to get several WW2-era tanks and self-propelled guns working.
They took over a MASSIVE ammunition cache in a Salt Mine (a WW3 Rally point for the Soviet invasion of Europe), that gave them literally tens of millions of bullet rounds, and hundreds of thousands of WW2/Cold War-era Artillery rounds and rockets.
If they pull those out I think nukes would be table.
The T-34 at 1:16 is being used to lay down a smoke screen!
“Israel has a stash of Shermans in reserve as a last ditch resort”
I always like tank threads, the reason being my dad was a Sherman tank driver in WWII. He trained at Leavenworth. In his later years, he would tell some interesting stories.
I actually wanted to buy a Sherman and put in the front yard, but the wife wouldn’t let me. :)
I liked that film of the guy firing the main gun with a lanyard running through a hole in the side of the turret. Not taking any chances with a 70+ yo breach.
I’d love to have a tank and put it in the back yard to annoy the commie 0-pickles worshiper neighbors.
A tank is a bit out of my price range. Years ago I saw some place up north that had some halftracks fairly reasonable.
There are some really nice RC tanks out there now. I’m looking at getting one for youtube fodder. Besides I have some seat time in an Abrams.
The MVPA magazine is fun to read. All I can say it must be nice to be able own toys like some of those people.
A few years ago my dad had a surplus 5 ton that I drove one afternoon around the farm.
I have seen pictures of Shermans that the Israelis have converted into howitzers.
It probably helped keep the Germans from getting a good bead on them...lol
I’ve seen that video I couldn’t hardly believe it.
Apparently she doesn’t appreciate the beauty.
BTW, people collect and restore vintage tanks. Takes a few bucks.
As much as working on a tank for restoration sounds fun, I’ll stick with the old Jeeps I have.
Besides running metal track in the burbs would get me the ire of the DOT and cops.
The Soviets were supplying T-34/85s as military aid into the 70s.
