The mystery surrounding the A(ustralian) C(hristian) L(obby) headquarters car bombing

THE mystery of the car bombing of the Australian Christian Lobby headquarters in Canberra is not going away.

ACT Policing’s attempt to downplay it as a “car fire” and then to claim, a mere 15 hours later, that it was not “politically, religiously or ideologically motivated” does not satisfy ACL managing director Lyle Shelton. And nor should it.

What we know is that on the Thursday night before Christmas, at about 9.30pm, a van packed with six gas cylinders was exploded in Shelton’s marked car parking space outside the ACL office in a business park in Deacon, just three kilometres from Parliament House.

.....

Police concluded it was just a random suicide attempt, and nothing to do with ACL, based on a seven or eight minute interview with the alleged driver in the emergency ward the next morning. He is believed to have said words to the effect of: “All I wanted to do was blow myself up”.

.....

The ACT Police refuse to comment on the case, saying the investigation is “ongoing”.

But the ACL has been targeted all year with death threats because of its outspoken Christianity and stance on safe schools and same sex marriage. So when a supposed suicide bomber detonates a car bomb at their HQ, they need more reassurance from police than a glib brushoff.

'Safe schools' mentioned in the last paragraph is an Australian government sponsored program that promotes what is described as 'gender equality' in Australian schools - designed by a self-described Marxist, it promotes some very 'progressive' ideas about gender and sexuality politics to children.

The real issue in this case is how quickly the police dismissed the idea of any political, ideological, or religious motivation - it was done within hours. Normal police investigations take days before they are confident enough to make statements like that - in this case, it seemed very rushed, and completely lacking in caution - especially seeing the ACL has been the favourite target of the left wing same sex marriage lobby during the debate over whether or not Australia would have a plebiscite on that issue over the last year.

Thanks for posting. It seems similar to the phenomena we have been seeing for years with Muslim terrorists.

Jihad is always the last possible explanation, even when the perpetrator loudly proclaims that Jihad was his primary motivation. This happened both with the Fort Hood Shooter and the Orlando nightclub shooter.

Don't know how much,if anything, authority figures in Australia (police/government,etc) have in common with our Community Organizer-In-Chief & Pals (philosophically/ morally/politically) but it must be noted that they swore up and down that an obscure youtube video posted by an equally obscure Egyptian Christian was responsible for Benghazi...an attack that, curiously enough...happened on the 11th of September.

This reminds me of the attack on the Family Research Council by a man with a gun, a backpack full of Chick-fil-A sandwiches, and a beef regarding Christian morality.

“Nothing to see here ... move along ...”
