They may believe that their regular profits will outweigh this.
Doesn’t really matter too much at this point - the classic all-indoor shopping mall is rapidly becoming a thing of the past, replaced by all-outdoor facilities - well, if it gets replaced with anything. Because of this sort of stupidity, people are increasingly just ordering online.
Definitely true; I rarely go to malls anymore (less than once a year), and the last couple of times I was surprised 1) at how many foreigners were there, almost as though they were visiting a museum (no bags of purchases, just window-shopping), and 2) how many areas formerly housing retail space were geared towards food/snacks or something else (in one case, a tattoo parlor).
I live about 20 minutes from both the mall in Elizabeth NJ that was just in the news, as well as the one in Jersey City that was in the news last week, and I’ve been to each one exactly once in my life (many years ago). Americans in my area that want to go to a mall always head west; they are safer, cleaner places less accessible to ghetto clientele.
Online shopping IS picking up as anticipated, and just the exposure to these creatures tearing these places up is sufficient deterrent.
BTW, these malls are in financial trouble; they know their regular profits aren’t replacing what they’ve lost. People can’t buy $600 sneakers with EBT/WIC cards.
We have one of those outdoor shopping venues nearby. Very trendy , expensive shops, but was nice to walk around on a summer day.
Then it almost doubled in size. It went from being a fun place to almost like a small city. One with an increasing number of adherents to the religion of peace.
So now the good hubby and I venture to the surrounding small towns and make a day of it. Lunch and shopping to support the local vendors.
