Federal programs designed to help farmers set aside more habitat for bees and wildlife have produced a dangerous offshoot this year: Some mixes used to plant native grasses and flowers were contaminated with harmful weed seeds that have now been introduced onto hundreds of farms in several Midwestern states, including Minnesota.
The weeds include Palmer amaranth, one of the most prolific and devastating weeds in the country for corn, soybeans and other row crops.
Theres reason for concern, said University of Minnesota Extension weed scientist Jeff Gunsolus, because a single female Palmer amaranth plant produces more than 250,000 seeds, grows to a height of 6 to 8 feet and has a woody stem thick enough to damage combine cutter bars and other farm equipment that try to mow it down.
Its almost chain saw material; its that strong, Gunsolus said.

Sounds like a plot from a Cheech and Chong movie.
Ha ha, thought they were talking about pot!
Well, it is Minnesota.
Is there NOTHING the government can’t screw up?!
But really, we promise not to screw up your health care...
See: kudzu
Same song second verse
If you hear, “We’re from the Federal Government, here to help....”, run like Hell !!!!!!
The only thing that will overpower these weeds will be GMO plants that will not reproduce, and can only be purchased from MonSatan.
See how much destruction Obama has done to our country.
People need to start hanging :(( - - - seriously
Yeah, I know all of it. SMH...
Murphy’s law.
A quick google shows it to be the same as what we call careless weed down here in West Texas. Get out in the field early and dig them up when they’re young, that’s what we do. Wait to late and you’ll have a field full of them.
My grandfather, 1881-1972, had a saying; “The government can screw up a steel ball with a rubber mallet.”
My old mentor would say, ‘Youngun’, you could screw up a new anvil!’
Another one, when pointing out someone that wasn’t too bright. ‘You’ve heard of people that don’t know nuthin’, well that guy don’t SUSPECT nuthin’!’
“Is there NOTHING the government cant screw up?!”............
Answer: Absolutely NOTHING!
“Federal programs designed to help farmers”.......
Anyone ever hear of the “Asian Beatle” our illustrious government brought here to control aphides on soybeans? Worst problem anyone can conceive, I wish I could find that person and dish him some justice.
Easy targets-
Money -counterfeit, ID Theft, hacking
Food -scatter weeed seeds & bad bugs
Water -couple spills of Perchloroethylene, or similar
Transportation -crash a tanker into a bridge, wrong way on the hghway
Terror Two Step -a small boom creating an incident drawing emergency workers and onlookers, then a big boom, or two.
and it all falls down.
The Donald will begin ending all of this crap by getting rid of the yahoos who cause it.
MAGA!
The only thing about kudzu is that it does stop erosion, is extremely high in protein and is a wonderful forage crop for goats and pigs. Problem is it is hard to kill and grows on and over everything.
“Is there NOTHING the government cant screw up?!”
On that note, several years ago the IRS took The Mustang Ranch to court accusing it of not paying enough taxes on income. The Mustang Ranch was a Nevada whorehouse that had been in business for over one hundred years. The Ranch lost and did not have enough cash to pay the fine. The IRS took over the business to get the fine money out of operating revenues. Yes, our government once owned a whorehouse. Several months later they were forced to close the doors because of operating losses. A senator said, (approximately) “The government can’t run any business. Imagine that they took over a working whorehouse and couldn’t even make a profit selling pussy and beer.”
