Jimmy Stewart is one of my heroes. I believe he flew combat missions in 3 wars, while at the same time being a great actor. Lord, do I miss the “Greatest Generation”.
My dad left the farm plowing with a mule and ended up a bomber pilot in WWII, without a single day of college. He had 3 brothers also in the war. and these men were my idols. My mother was also in the service as a WAVE during the war.I was lucky to have them as examples of courage, fortitude and patriotism .
God Bless General Stewart and all on his generation this Christmas Eve.

And Stewart was a real general. It wasn’t some ceremonial title.

In the fall of 1987 I managed to finally visit LA for the first time and went to a taping of the Tonight Show. Got in on the standby line. Not the best seats but Johnny Ed and Doc were all there. One of the guests that night was none other than Jimmy Stewart. A special time indeed.
