Two demonstrators found guilty of blocking highway in first jury trial from high-profile protest
A North Dakota judge had a message for Dakota Access pipeline protesters seeking to avoid paying their public defenders: Get a job.
Two men convicted Tuesday in the first jury trial related to the long-running pipeline protest asked a judge to waive the $500 both were ordered to pay their public defenders.
State District Court Judge Bruce Romanick was having none of it, informing the two men that $500 was far less than a private lawyer would have charged and noting that protesters have demonstrated ample resources when it comes to posting bond.

OMG—common sense in a courtroom?
What is this country coming to?!
Liberals protest but then they don’t want to foot the bills for it.
Respondents had ample resources to travel to ND but they’re too poor to pay their lawyers?
Yeah, sure.
These lazy layabouts will appeal the decision on the grounds of cruel and unusual punishment.
They are going to wiggle out saying that Faith Flyingeagle, their leader, got an electoral vote, so they are entitled to funding.
bingo.... better call mommy or their trust officer
The exact words I shouted at protestors a month ago here in Des Moines who were protesting the same thing!
Too funny!
Maybe the protesters don't have as much public support as they think they do...
Absolutely...And it's sending a great message to the rest of the leftists.
Yip yip yip yip

Boom Boom Boom Boom Boom...
“But the government is supposed to GIVE me money, not TAKE my money”
Yeah, I wondered when the news was showing the expanse of tents and vehicles up there, who the heck has time to do this?
The Indians used to get paid a fee to drive the oil in trucks through their land.
The oil pipe was originally planned to go through their land and they wanted the SAME AMOUNT of money per barrel, that crossed their land, which would have been a huge increase in the cost because many more barrels would flow through each day.
The oil companies countered with a lower offer, and they rejected it. The oil companies then moved the pipeline route off of Indian land.
The Indians STILL wanted to be paid. The Company told them to go F themselves.
The Indians promised to protest and stop construction. Which they are trying to do now.
The original pipeline STILL would have crossed the river, but the “water protectors” were OK with it then.
Thanks for your post, I had no idea that had taken place.
The Indians are really going to be ticked when President-elect Trump takes office and the pipeline is completed. Hilarious!
*noting that protesters have demonstrated ample resources when it comes to posting bond.*
ha! how do you like them apples
Bfl.
In my limited dealing with a Tribe when I was working for the government, it always boiled down to how much money we would have to pay them. They have all the tools to play the long game if the price isn’t right...
In all fairness, Jaz, Professional LibTards ARE used to getting a Free Ride through life, don’t ‘cha know! ;)
Yep, I know...I’d have liked to have seen the looks on these LibTards faces when this judge laid that on them, they must have been in shock. LOL!
The problem with dealing with them is that I don;t understaind their mindset. They are like a sovereign nation. They should set up tax-free business zones and tell the fedral government to F off.
Without Washington running them they would have incredible opportunities.
