I don't particularly like him, but I favor many of his policies and promises. His agenda thus far is much more conservative than Bush. What's not to like about that? His appointments thus far are so very much more conservative than Bush - such an incredible and welcome surprise.

Trump seems to understand it is "Go big or go home" at this point. No one in DC is happy about him being there and will never warm to him, so why make nice? Do what you have to do to attempt the revolution that we all know needs to occur and trust that people will see you as continuing to rage against the system.

In the end as the election drew close to the end, I decided that while he is not very presidential in his reactions on social media or when he is speaking off the cuff, he was infinitely better than HRC.

No matter how well he performs, I don’t ever see Trump getting high approval numbers. I full expect his disapproval numbers to stay above 50% for three reasons.

1) 48% of the electorate voted for still voted Hillary vs 46% for Trump. If they voted for someone as corrupt and dishonest as Hillary over Trump, they will never like Trump nor will they ever admit he is doing a good job.

2) The media will be in full Trump bash mode for the next four years. A large portion of the nation will never hear or see the truth. Therefore they will always disapprove of the job Trump is doing.

3) Pollsters will also do their part to help fudge numbers if an uptick for Trump seems to be in the works.

But if Trump goes for re-election in 2020, he could still win in similar fashion as he did in 2016 if he does truly succeed. The base that helped him win those rust belt states will stay intact for him. I think the only way he could lose in 2020 (if he is successful) is if the Democrats find a charismatic black candidate (Cory Booker?) to run against him. Then the blacks in Detroit, Philly and Milwaukee will come back out and overwhelm Trumps blue collar voters.

“He could increase by 10% if he would stop tweeting stupid sh$t.”

What you call “stupid sh$t” got Trump noticed and elected.

Just one percent said they backed Trump in furtherance of "traditional Republican policies."

What values? Do they mean whimping out, caving in and bending over for the globalists?

I know that it’s highly likely that some of the people making phone calls probably did make up numbers out of thin air. I guarantee it almost.

A Donald Trump presidency with Democrats in control of Congress would have been a complete disaster ...

You underestimate Potus-elect Donald Trump. The left did that. The Clinton Campaign and the leftist media grossly underestimated Trump. The establishment politicians on both sides of the isle, especially the eGOP underestimated Trump.

As far as Bush, McCain and Romney are concerned, they called themselves Republicans, they ran as Republicans, but they are all a far cry from what I want a Republican to be.

I am biased, of course. My wife and I were Trump supporters before it was cool to be a Trump supporter.

I filled out a survey for the RNC in late 2014, and at that time I thought Ted Cruz would be a good candidate, based on what I thought I knew then. But then Trump made his grand entrance onto the stage. I looked at them both. It took me little time to know that Trump was by far the better candidate. As the Primary campaign wore on, and Trump beat the proverbial shit out of 16 candidates, we knew he would be POTUS 45.

You might ask, what swayed us to become such staunch Trump supporters. His stance on the Wall, His stance on uncontrolled Muzzie immigration with refuge status, His stance re ISIS, and especially his stance on Tax Code revisions and his stance on NAFTA and TPP. Finally his stance on energy independence. Mine, baby mine. Drill, baby drill.

His stance on a revitalized military is not an option. Must happen. Not for aggression, but for defense. No foreign nation will want to 'mess with USA'.

We also see him as a master when it comes to 'The Art of the Deal'. He can and will negotiate. His negotiating skills will revamp foreign policy in America's favor for years to come.

If we have learned anything from this election, it’s that polls can be very very wrong.

HMMMmmm...

Autocorrect seems to have assumed you meant WRONG instead of what you typed: RIGGED.

I don't underestimate him at all. I've lived around NYC long enough that I know how he operates.

As far as Bush, McCain and Romney are concerned, they called themselves Republicans, they ran as Republicans, but they are all a far cry from what I want a Republican to be.

That last part of your statement says it all. I'm not sure why anyone would be concerned about what you "want a Republican to be." These people are Republicans through-and-through. If that's not what you want a Republican to be, then maybe you aren't really a Republican at all.

FreeRepublic is filled with people (me included) who have no party affiliation at all -- for the reasons you just described there.
