What an interesting story; and sad, too.
I think something similar happened in a Clancy novel.
Come to think of it, there are places where I used to live that are no longer accessible...Wheelus AFB in Tripoli, Libya; and I think Burderop Park RAF Base in Swindon, England has also been repurposed.

Thank you. Just hoping to bring some Christmas joy if I am able.
Also a celebration of Our new President. May God be with him.

Ok...it's still NOT snowing here!
But it looks so wintry!
...and it is the first day of winter...tomorrow!
It's nearly 50 degrees here.
The popcicle that was the kitties outside water dish
...is melting finally. Poor kitties. LOL!
Sun shining....breeze blowing...
...and hubby has the heater turned up too far!
Typical winter day here! LOL!
[I'm gonna go sneak it down a bit. ;)]
Y'all all have a Terrific Tuesday!
((((hugs))))

All is well here...literally. I think we’re finally well. Our Christmas gift! LOL!
Hope you and Bo are well and that you can get out to the lake today. It’s a bit warmer here...maybe it is there, too!

The weather is warming up just a little. We'll see how things go today.
We did lose power for a few seconds here at the Calame House. Apparently a transformer blew at the PSO substation on the South side of Duncan OK and caused the outage.
Here's more from the Duncan Banner.

Ouch! Well, I’m glad it was only out for a few seconds! This is a bad time of year not to have heat or lights! Hope they got it all fixed!

Lived in the area for most of my life. Very near Andrews AFB there is an elementary school named for an Air Force pilot. He refused to eject from his plane as it was going down because a school was in it’s path. The plane barely missed the school and the pilot was killed. My eyes tear up tetelling this now.
