~The FReeper Canteen Presents~ Road Trip: Joint Base Andrews, Maryland Joint Base Andrews is a United States military facility located in Prince George's County, Maryland. The facility is under the jurisdiction of the United States Air Force 11th Wing, Air Force District of Washington (AFDW). In 2009, Andrews Air Force Base and Naval Air Facility Washington were merged to form Joint Base Andrews.
The base is named for Lieutenant General Frank Maxwell Andrews (18841943), former Commanding General of United States Armed Forces in the European Theater of Operations during World War II. The base is widely known for serving as the home base of two Boeing VC-25 aircraft which have the call sign Air Force One while the President of the United States is on board. The host unit at Andrews is the 11th Wing (11 WG), assigned to the Air Force District of Washington. The 11 WG is responsible for maintaining emergency reaction rotary-wing airlift and other National Capital Region contingency response capabilities critical to national security, and for organizing, training, equipping and deploying combat-ready forces for Air and Space Expeditionary Forces (AEFs). The Air Force District of Washington (AFDW) is composed of two wings, one group and two Ceremonial Elements. The 11th Wing and the 79th Medical Wing at Joint Base Andrews. Also under AFDW is the Air Force Operations Group (AFOG) at the Pentagon and the 844th Communications Group. The Air Force Operations Group is the principal operational entity of the Air Staff in support of the Secretary of the Air Force and the Chief of Staff of the Air Force. The 79th Medical Wing and 844th Communications Group both have specialized missions where they will be the single Air Force voice in the National Capital Region (NCR) for their respective fields of expertise. The 11th Wing will fulfill duties as the host base organization of Andrews while also supporting AFDW requirements. Through the U.S. Air Force Band and the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard, the 11th Wing also provides ceremonial and musical support throughout the National Capital Region and worldwide. Learn More About Joint Base Andrews HERE!! FR CANTEEN MISSION STATEMENT~Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and our allies military and the family members of the above. Please remember: The Canteen is a place to honor and entertain our troops. The Canteen is family friendly. Let's have fun! We pray for your continued strength, to be strong in the face of adversity. We pray for your safety, that you will return to your families and friends soon. We pray that your hope, courage, and dignity remain unbroken, so that you may show others the way. Spreading Joy
December 20, 2016
The angel said to them, Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.
Luke 2:10
When Janet went to teach English in a school overseas, she found the atmosphere gloomy and depressing. People did their jobs, but no one seemed happy. They didn't help or encourage one another. But Janet, grateful for all that God had done for her, expressed it in everything she did. She smiled. She was friendly. She went out of her way to help people. She hummed songs and hymns.
Little by little, as Janet shared her joy, the atmosphere at the school changed. One by one people began to smile and help each other. When a visiting administrator asked the principal why his school was so different, the principal, who was not a believer, responded, Jesus brings joy. Janet was filled to overflowing with the joy of the Lord and it spilled over to those around her.
The gospel of Luke tells us that God sent an angel to ordinary shepherds to deliver an extraordinary birth announcement. The angel made the surprising proclamation that the newborn baby will cause great joy for all the people (Luke 2:10), which indeed He did.
Since then this message has spread through the centuries to us, and now we are Christ's messengers of joy to the world. Through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, we continue the practice of spreading the joy of Jesus as we follow His example and serve others.
How might you spread the joy of Jesus to others today?

Take the joy of Christmas with you every day.
Just as the angel appeared in the night sky to give shepherds reason for joy, Jesus also used a dark moment to offer His disciples reason for hope on the other side of His suffering and their confusion. What they didnt yet know would only be revealed in time. Christs death was a loving Fathers way of reconciling a rebel world to Himself. The despair of that night was necessary so that, three days later, a reason for hope now, and fullness of joy later, could be offered to all (v. 33).

Hi radu!
It's suppose to warm up into the 40's tomorrow, Woo-Hoo!
Then back to cold December, oh, well, I'll be seeing both my kids at the same time, later this week. Looking forward to that!
Howz things your way?

I lived at a small Navy communications station just a few miles from Andrews. I went over to Andrews many times, and the most memorable was when some of our POWs came back from Hanoi and we went over to welcome them home.
My dad was the XO at NAVCOMMSTA Cheltenham back in 1973. I went back there around 2005 to see the place, and it was still there...a ghost base, nobody around. The main gate was at that time just an electronic gate, and it was up so I drove right through. I thought of when I had lived there, and there was an old man, a civilian who ran security for the base, “Pop” Soule. He had a little shack he would sit in, he seemed to live there.
Went to my old house...it was wide open and empty. I took a bunch of pictures for my family, but I lost the pictures.
When I went back a few years later, I thought I would go back and re-take the pictures, but as I drove up the quarter mile road, there was a huge glass and concrete edifice that towered over where the dinky little gate had been.
It is now a Department of Homeland Security Counterterrorism Facility (If I recall the sign I saw...I wanted to turn around, but I figured that might attract attention, so I pulled up to the gate. The guard came over, and I lamely explained I used to live there and was going to go on the base, but...I supposed that was out of the question. He humorlessly said that was true, so I turned around.
Very nostalgic, and strange. You can’t go home again.

WOOHOO! 40s for both of us tomorrow!
But we're going to be lucky enough to stay warm the rest of the week. The best part is they're calling for 65 degrees for Christmas Day!
but you probably didn't want to hear that. :-) Seeing both kids together, huh? That's awesome. Should be a great time for all of you.
I made a run into town this afternoon for a new desk chair. Came to the conclusion the one I've had is a lot of my back and hip trouble so it's gotta go. I'm assembling the new one now.
