President-elect Donald Trump will nominate former infantry officer, billionaire businessman and National Hockey League team owner Vincent Viola as secretary of the Army, his transition team announced Monday.
"I am proud to have such an incredibly accomplished and selfless individual as Vincent Viola as our Secretary of the Army," Trump said in a statement. "Whether it is his distinguished military service or highly impressive track record in the world of business, Vinnie has proved throughout his life that he knows how to be a leader and deliver major results in the face of any challenge."
Viola is the founder of a Virtu Financial and was previously the chairman of the New York Mercantile Exchange from 2001 to 2004.
He graduated from West Point in 1977 and went on to be an infantry officer in the Army's 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell. After completing active duty, he remained in the Army Reserves.

Trumps Secretary of the Army candidate, Vincent Viola:
Wow, a candidate who actually has Military service instead of a butt warrior intent on turning the Army into a social experiment.
I don't know much about Mr. Viola but he will be a welcome change.
Brian Sukes is thrilled. Therefore, this guy is ok by me.
Oh my....I see vapors....vapors and fainting couches, clutching of pearl necklaces. Safeypins gotta get stock in safety pins.
Mr. Viola owns the Florida Panthers Hockey team!
Say goodbye to procurement cost overruns, Haliburtons and Penta-crats.
And the hits just keep on coming!
I admit to my early reservations about Trump in the primaries. However, when my wife and I voted for him, we had great hopes he would put in place the best. He is doing so. Hopefully he appoints similar for the Air Force, Marines, and Navy. No politicians as Secretaries...they don't understand the military mentality and only use the military as political pawns.
The USA is once again going to become THE world leader. Our nation deserves the respect of the world having given the example of freedom copied many times over since 1787.
Love the choice!
Personally, I like the idea that Trump is staffing his administration with a number of self-made millionaires and billionaires. Let’s hope they are a successful with their departments as they have been in business.
The very ones who will be fighting him tooth and nail.
Smells like more winning. I’m not tired of it yet.
Yes, most winning!
Time for a nap and rest up for the next round of winning
2017 is shaping up to be a most amazing year. Go, Trump!
