'We've made a decision': Electors prepare to cast votes for Trump (North Carolina)

The next step in the 2016 presidential election isn’t happening without controversy as North Carolina’s presidential electors are gearing up to cast their votes in the Electoral College.

Several groups, including Unite America, are calling on electors to vote their conscience after President elect Donald Trump won North Carolina.

A spokesman for the state Republican Party ... press conference began that there would be no mystery in the outcome Monday. There will be 15 votes for Trump, but that didn't stop protesters from gathering to urge electors to change their mind.

"We have decided that the electoral college will serve as ministers of the will of the people of North Carolina," said elector Mark Delk. [snip]

The state’s presidential electors arrived at the NC Museum of History Sunday afternoon to take a group photo and answer some questions before casting their votes on Monday at noon. North Carolina is one of more than two dozen states with laws that attempt to bind the votes of presidential electors. In the state, any elector who switches a vote is subject to a $500 fine. State law also says switching a vote constitutes a resignation and the vote would not count and remaining electors would fill the vacancy.

North Carolina’s electors said they’ve received tubs full of mail as well as emails from people asking that they change their votes, but they said not to expect any such controversy. “I’ve gotten registered mail, I’ve gotten mail from Canada ..... It’s really been disappointing because we’ve made a decision,” said elector Glenn Pinckney.

Another elector said that while they do understand the right of the people to petition the government, they feel a lot of the mail crosses into harassment.

Anything short of the voters voting for Caligula’s horse for president; is not a reason to deviate from the voter’s wishes.

They know this.

Pretty sure people voting their conscience would not get them to vote for Hillary. Anybody voting for her pretty much doesn't have one. She is exactly the type of candidate the EC was instituted to prevent. I marvel that the snowflakes can't see that.

That’s great! ‘Ministers of the will of the people” is the perfect phrase for the job they are entrusted to perform.

Over 60 million Americans “voted their conscience” on November 8th. It’s now time for the electors to go in and do the job they were selected to do. The time for conscience voting is long past. Trump won.

I wonder if they received mail in support of their vote for Trump?

With the exception of the number of votes for Bernie, I don’t expect much news out of all this.

I did hear on the news that the number of Dim loons who won’t vote until Putin spills the beans has gone up to 80. Hellary could get fewer than 200 votes, which would be funny.

Whiny Dim libs always lie about stuff like this, and moving away, and not contesting the election, etc, so I think they will just vote and come up with some other lame excuse about why they can’t ever keep their word.

Actually, they made a promise, a commitment.

Or replace them with robots, because their is no need for elections if they think they have the power to overturn an election.

Cruz started this crap with the delegates and it emboldens people.

He came in 2nd, 3rd, & 4th place in states where he was pressuring and luring delegates to vote for him.

Oh, that’s very well done. It’s nice the electors made a unified effort to put the speculation and threats to bed.

Hillary should end up with the states she could have won minus the illegal votes.

That likely puts her under 200 EV, in a sinkhole.

Thanks for posting this.

“Another elector said that while they do understand the right of the people to petition the government, they feel a lot of the mail they’ve received crosses over into harassment.”

Absolutely - harassment is an understatement.
