Casting pearls before swine isn’t always a waste of time, as it will frequently cause the swine among us to reveal themselves.

Similarly,I know of people fired from good paying civilian jobs for petty theft ,and others for adult porn on company computers.

Companies remove those who abuse trust.I thought adultery was a serious breach of military regs. Then considering clinton and obama as CICs no wonder .

“Moral behavior has not changed.”

I find it very difficult to accept that you really believe this.

Bottom line: Control of sexual behavior, from leadership on down, is the best way for success in the military. Our country used to do this and has been slipping as it has turned from God.

Our enemies want us to keep slipping. Sexual behavior is a very powerful weapon used in war. We need to obey what we used to obey.

BINGO! The rules are the rules and there are many cretins I see about this subject here attempting to justify it by changing the subject and deflect. He effed up now it’s time to pay the piper

Bergdahl will never qualify for retirement. Time in the stockade does not count.

The rule are the rules stop trying to justify an argument of support of his behavior through some eqiuvalency. You either follow the rules faithfully in the military and serve honorably or you do not. There is no gray area here

That’s kind of ironic since his time with the Taliban counted for his “promotion” to sergeant.

"It’s rightfully assumed that any man who will betray his wife and mother of his children is so morally bankrupt that he won’t hesitate to also betray his comrades and his country."

I find that preposterous , and I challenge anyone to show one scintilla of evidence that that is the case.

Oh, and here's your 'scintilla':

For most workers what you do in your personal life has little to no impact on your professional life. Short of committing a serious crime, personal infractions are outside the company’s concern. However, as Mathew B. Tully discusses in an article in FedSmith, this separation between personal and professional behavior does not apply when it comes to cleared workers. When security clearances are on the line, the personal lives of workers can have very real consequences.

So, in the case of adultery by a cleared worker, what are the consequences? According to Tully, they are severe. An adulterous worker may lose their security clearance when it comes up for review, particularly if they’ve gone to any effort to conceal their actions. The reason for revoking the clearance is stated in Guideline D of the Adjudication Guidelines for Determining Eligibility for Access to Classified Information, specifically that personal conduct can disqualify an individual when it "creates a vulnerability for exploitation, manipulation, or duress." Simply put, it is for cleared federal workers, as Tully puts it, "the kiss of death."

Why is the penalty so severe? The short answer is coercion. Individuals with security clearances gain that privilege at least partially through demonstrating a resistance to pressure. This means no alcoholism, no gambling debts, and no secrets that could be exploited by a foreign agent in order to obtain classified information. When a cleared worker does commit adultery, the punishment is not to penalize their moral behavior, but to nullify the threat posed by that individual’s susceptibility to coercion.

To summarize, the Federal Government EVEN UNDER OBAMA recognizes that expression of adultery by an individual poses a risk to the country and his comrades.

There's a 'scintella' for ya, right there.

As a libertarian, I feel whatever consenting adults want to do amongst themselves is none of my business.

As me, I abhor the “swinging lifestyle” and won’t date anyone who does that.

Now bathhouse barry should be demoted and his pension cut.

Excellent point.

It’s all about them, not about the people they claim to love.

"...He will now be demoted from a two-star general to a lieutenant colonel and his annual pension will drop from $122,000 to $79,800, according to USA Today, which first revealed details of Haight’s affairs...."

BIG hit indeed! $42,200!

The “scintilla” of evidence that I asked for was to show that , as the assertion was made, just because someone commits adultery, they are more likely to betray their country or commit treason. That is what I find preposterous, and your post did not provide evidence to support the assertion that adulterer = traitor.

Of course there is a grey area. I don't see how his personal life impacted his service at all.

Sexual assault toward females probably mirrors the civilian population. It’s bad and getting worse. The largest share of sexual assault in the military is homosexual predators, though you’d never know it from all the mandatory training. Sexual relationships are not illegal, unless one or more is married or the conduct constitutes fraternization or conduct unbecoming.

As far as accountability, it varies (by rank usually). This case is rare, with most Command level officers quietly retiring, while junior officers and NCOs will get demoted, do hard time, and or get a BCD.

LOL.

You must not read very well.

The Federal Government believes it, and your Security Clearance WILL be revoked for adultery.

Signed,

Laz, holder of a (probably still active) Public Trust Clearance.

A Big Chicken Dinner is bad enough, but at least it’s not a Duck Dinner.
