Evacuations begin in Aleppo as Kerry decries Assad regime's 'massacre'

Embattled Syrian rebels losing their last territory they controlled in Aleppo watched medics start evacuating the wounded and people caught in the crossfire Thursday, as Secretary of State John Kerry described the Syrian government's actions as "nothing short of a massacre."

The evacuation is part of a cease-fire deal reached this week to have the opposition surrender their last foothold in Aleppo to Syrian government control in the face of a devastating ground and air offensive by government forces in the past weeks that chipped away at the rebel enclave. It marks the end of the opposition's four-year control of eastern Aleppo.

Syrian TV showed live footage of a long convoy of ambulances and green buses driving out and crossing the Ramouseh bridge, en route through government territory and into a rural, rebel-held part of Aleppo province.

SOS Kerry remarked that the government forces "Personally raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, taped wires from portable telephones to human genitals and turned up the power, cut off limbs, blown up bodies, randomly shot at civilians, razed villages in fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan, shot cattle and dogs for fun, poisoned food stocks, and generally ravaged the countryside of in addition to the normal ravage of war, and the normal and very particular ravaging which is done by the applied bombing power of this country."

Oops, strike that, Kerry said that about US Vietnam Veterans, got confused, there.

All this bloodshed was caused by the obama-HilLIARy-Kerry regime aggression against Syria

We didn’t have Twitter back then but we do now and there are plenty of testimonials and videos coming out of Aleppo about the relief and gratitude of the syrian people for their government liberating the city

Evacuations BEGIN?
WTF?
Aleppo has been a full on war zone for years!
It’s up to individuals to evacuate themselves & theirs.
If tanks rolling down the streets daily for the last year wasn’t enough of a hint, it’s kinda hard to take pity.

I wonder how many “village idiot” jobs are vacant across the country? There are going to be a lot of “unemployed idiots” fighting for those jobs in a few weeks.

“SOS Kerry remarked”...I thought “where have I heard that BS before.” The Genghis Khan reference snapped me out of my stupor. That Asshat, Kerry not Genghis, has exceeded even Hilliary's horrible job at State.

Rebels = ISIS

I don’t care who kills ISIS. As long as they are dead.

I wonder just how much Kerry knows about Syria. How much he knows of just the past 50yrs in Syria? If he knows the difference between an Arab, a Muslim, and a Muslim Extremist? If he knows the political and trade history of Syria and the Soviet Union and In-turn Russia at the fall of the USSR? If he knows that the legacy of USSR/Russia and Syrian relationship includes a strategic Naval and a strategic Air Base.

To make points in the order of the questions above: There was a coup in 1970 led by a dashing but ruthless Air Force general who was an Alawite Muslim. First important point Sunnis do not recognize Alawites as true Muslims. In the 80’s there were at least two coups led by the Muslim Brotherhood/Sunnis. After defeating the coups, Assad the father, changed the constitution from Syria needing to be a Muslim country to Syria must be led by a Muslim but was a Arab nation. Boy did that P’ O’ the Sunnis’/MB who did not recognize Assad as a true muslim. By making Syria an Arab Nation, not unlike Egypt, Arab Coptic Christians, Catholics, Muslims and other religions were allowed to coexist.

Where did I first see the term of “Muslim Extremist”. Of all places in the obituary of Hafez Assad in the NYT in 2000. Today you won’t find the phrase “Muslim extremists” in redscribing the Syria Conflict. You will find the sympathetic name of “rebels”. These rebels have the same objective and come from the same cloth as the Muslim extremists of 40 years ago. Return Syria to a Muslim Theocracy in stead of an Arab Nation. It’s time for a little remembrance of the “lead from behind strategy” of the current administration from west to east looking at the N African countries of: Algieria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt. With the exception of a reverse coup in Egypt all the countries are Muslim Theocracies first and we somehow enabled once enemies to work together: MB and ISIS.

The naive nature of this Administration thinking Russia would allow ISIS and/or MB to gain access to two strategic military installations that allow a warm port is amazing. Look up MB. Founded in the 1920s and served in the Nazi SS. They learned their brutal tactics from the best and Russia has been fighting them ever since WWII.

Words mean things:

Calling the enemy rebels instead of Muslim extremists was purposeful and deceitful to the US Citizens.
A large percentage of westerners think all Arabs are Muslim
Russian is in this war for real. They have fought this enemy before.
War is an ugly thing, but to make specific point; not as ugly as living under a Theocracy that is led by Sharia Law.

Kind of a rough break when the guy we are trying to topple fights back and his military supports him.

If Kerry wants to stop the massacres he should ask his boss to quit financing them.

Re: #17

I'm impressed, accurate on all points addressed, but I'd like to again emphasize Assad's action: By making Syria an Arab Nation, not unlike Egypt, Arab Coptic Christians, Catholics, Muslims and other religions were allowed to coexist. for all FReepers to read again.

Assad was recognized as the legitimate President of Syria. The original rebel faction is a product of the United States, Turkey, Quatar, and Saudi destabilizing Syria in what Obama and Hillary called the Arab Spring. Some of the aid was arms, some of the aid was money all funneled through Turkey and Qatar. Saudi and Qatar also gave arms and money. They would not have done this without the approval of Obama and Hillary. It became an 8 year nightmare. The rebels morphed into factions that are extreme Islamists. Then Isis poured into Syria from Iraq. Bush left Iraq stable and Obama pulled out of Iraq. A power vacuum was filled by Isis and then spilled into Syria.

This horrible nightmare is because of Obama and Clinton, not Russia, not Assad, not Iran. If we had not interfered Syria would just be another autocratic Middle East state which is the norm in the Middle East.

As a result Iran and Russia have much influence in Syria. Far more influence today than 8 years ago.
ps
John McCain is a fool.
