Obama administration blocks states from cutting off grants to Planned Parenthood

The Obama administration took steps Wednesday to block states from cutting off federal family planning grants to Planned Parenthood, finalizing a rule that is to take effect just days before the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump.

The rule stipulates that states may not prohibit an organization from participating in Title X — the state-federal program that gives out tens of millions of dollars for family planning — for any reason other than the organization’s ability to provide services. It is designed to undercut efforts in some states to withhold taxpayer money from Planned Parenthood, which offers a variety of health-care services, primarily to low-income women. While the money cannot be used for abortions, some conservative lawmakers have targeted the group because it also offers the procedure at some of its clinics.

Sounds like Trump needs to use his executive pen to over turn this.

Ignore this. If fedzilla can tell the states how to spend their money, then there is NO state sovereignty. ALL money is federal money.

Obama is such a dumb f-—.

First thing Trump should do is sign an EO that forces Obama to wear a “Silence of the Lambs” mask for the next 30 years.

Oh how quaint, the Obama administration instituted a rule.

I wonder how hard it would be for a new administration to institute a new rule?

If he really writes it exactly like that — why not just have every good conservative group open up “family planning” services, and apply for the money? Normally the government would say “no, your organization doesn’t qualify”, but with this rule it sounds like ANY organization can qualify now.

So you can cut off PP money simply by flooding the field with organizations requesting the money. “Sorry, PP, but Obama said we had to let all these new organizations in so we’re cutting your take by 75% now...”

And that’s (one reason) why we don’t elect presidents with popular vote.

The founders had just escaped an empire run by a king they didn’t agree with that preferred some territories to others. If we used the popular vote we’d have the DC empire run by Queen Hillary favoring NYC, LA, SanFran, and issuing royal edicts on the other territories whether they like it or not.

We still have a long way to go to regain states’ rights but at least we still have the electoral college.

Planned Parenthood is HUGE money-maker for a few connected Democrats, and a big revenue source for the Democratic Party campaigns.

They are going to do whatever they can to protect it.

Shirely you jest. We have had three successive Catholic Speakers of the House of Representatives and none have seen fit to end the funding of Planned Parenthood... by we the people. The connection is far wider and deeper than a 'few' democrats.

Only as long as this piece of filth is contaminating the White House. Have faith, morning in America is coming.

Their services aren’t free, either.
