(Vermilion) -- A former Vermilion police officer is waking up in jail for an assault that was caught on his body camera.
Aaron Bolton was sentenced yesterday to four months behind bars for roughing up a disorderly conduct suspect last year.
Bolton was a decorated, 18-year veteran of the Vermilion Police Department before he resigned last week.

It’s an important reminder that all professions have an occasional bad apple, but thank god we have the thin blue line right?
I’ve often wondered why it’s called a ‘blue’ line when anymore most of the cops you see wear black.
The attitudes changed with change in uniform color. The Nazi SS loved their black uniforms. All black is supposed to be intimidating.
Of course. But in other professions the bad apples are generally not given total legal authority over others and most are not carrying guns and clubs etc. It should be pointed out, the consequences for bad apples in law enforcement can have severe consequences including death and life in prison etc. In fact, those bad apples have been a factor in generating wide spread distrust of law enforcement and government in general over the past several decades. So comparing those bad apples to say the bad apple plumber, truck driver or computer technician, is like comparing apples to oranges.
And, this is the FIRST time he ever did something wrong...
...with a body cam on.
Its amazing what one moment and one bad decision will do to any ones career.
“All black is supposed to be intimidating.”
I find it easier to aim at.
Many of these uniforms are actually very dark blue.
True. 10% of any group of people are idiots and make bad decisions. 2% of any group are terrible human beings. I am not sure which category this cop falls into.
The thing to remember is if your IT guy or your accountant or your mechanic fall into one of these categories, at least they don’t have a legitimate reason to carry around a weapon and commit violence on other people.
In 2010, Ex-Officer Bolton was a defendant in a civil rights lawsuit for excessive use of force. The case was settled quickly and quietly for an undisclosed amount.
Officers should be held to a higher standard. They carry an awful lot of power and they need to be trained to use it wisely.
I often wonder what goes through an officers mind when they decide to cross over that line and become the bad guy.
The regular German army used to refer to the SS as “The Crows.”
Former Vermilion police captain's appeal wraps up
In particular, Reinheimer had investigated Sgt. Aaron Bolton for use of excessive force after an incident in which the sergeant was accused of punching a man who was handcuffed in the back of a police cruiser.
Hes bad, but he didnt cross the line. The Capt that investigated him crossed the "line" (of silence), and got fired for doing it.
I assume there is more on the video than what is available on that web site. Yes, the guy is clearly jacked up, but how he got that way...the tape doesn’t show that.
