Incoming Minnesota state representative Ilhan Omar is speaking out about a hateful incident she experienced in the nation’s capital.
Omar said in a Facebook post Wednesday that a cab driver in Washington, D.C. had called her “ISIS” and threatened to pull off her hijab. The newly elected representative was in Washington meeting with Democratic leaders learning about policies she could help implement in her upcoming term.
In a press release Monday, Omar says she reported the incident to the Department of For-Hire Vehicles and the Human Rights Commission in D.C. However, she said she did not report the incident to police, saying “I believe criminalizing hate is not a solution and will only strengthen individual malice. Bigotry is a product of ignorance; by educating people, we will move toward respect and understanding.”
Omar said the cab driver — who she described as an African immigrant — picked them up at their hotel, and she was afraid to report the incident until she got back to Minnesota. “It is essential we recognize, what happened to me is not an isolated incident nor is it an extreme example of such encounters,” Omar said in the press release. “Women and Muslims share these experiences every day.”
In other words, ladies and gentlemen...

Well, of course, the cabbie would be referred to as an “African AMERICAN”

But the “narrative” is one that she is going to push because it suits her.
By the way, according to her the cab driver was an “African immigrant”? One who supposedly feels Muslims and ISIS (or terrorism) are synonomous? That’s also a bit of a stretch but if this event even happened, perhaps this “African immigrant” has some real world experience to draw from?
The whole thing doesn’t add up, but at least she didn’t claim the cabbie was a white guy in a MAGA hat. Maybe she realized that most cabbies in DC and big cities are ethnic minorities, many of them recent immigrants and it would be hard to find a white cabbie to report on.
When I travel for work, I have a guy. A cabbie.

Really??? In my recent experience in different cities, its hard to find a cab driver who was born in this country.
In the Twin Cities. I pay this guy well to pick me up and drop me off from home and the airport.
In Belfast and Derry, Jimmie gets well every time I land in NI.
