Seaport Developer ‘Doubts’ Climate Change, Cites YouTube Videos ‘There’s too much science.’
Boston Magazine ^ | December 12, 2016 | Kyle Scott Clauss

Posted on 12/12/2016 2:50:13 PM PST by billorites

Even as the city is sounding the alarm on climate change’s impact on the future of life in Boston, one major developer remains skeptical.

John B. Hynes III is the CEO and managing partner of Boston Global Investors, which is developing much of the 23-acre, $3.5 billion Seaport Square project in South Boston. And while he’s willing to build to state and local officials’ specifications, Hynes doesn’t buy into the whole hullabaloo of raising sea levels and the like.

“I have my doubts,” Hynes told the Herald. “The global warming phenomenon that everybody’s worried about is nothing more than historic cycling.”

Hynes reportedly cited a series of YouTube videos, which refer to climate change as a “hoax.”

“There are two sets of scientists out there, there’s a set that says global warming is real and there’s another set that says the research is not conclusive. Everybody seems to ignore that voice and buy in to the other one,” Hynes continued. “If these guys are all right, I guess the next generation will be developing out in the Berkshires. Eastern Massachusetts will be under water, which is crazy…I’m not going to get into the science of it because there’s too much science.”

Hynes—son of the late Channel 56 newsman Jack Hynes and grandson of John Hynes, the last man to unseat an incumbent mayor of Boston (the indefatigable James Michael Curley in 1949)—said the Seaport Square development’s power generators will not be kept in the basement. That’s probably a good thing, because the city’s most gloom-and-doom estimates (whether Hynes believes them or not) predict a three-foot rise in sea-level if carbon emissions go unchecked.

The part that I'm *very* skeptical about is “man made”.Climate change has happened before, long before the advent of the internal combustion engine.Central Park in Manhattan was once covered by a glacier that was a thousand feet thick...and that iceberg disappeared thousands of years ago.

Saw your post and thought 'fakescience' would make a great keyword for GlowBull Warming threads.
Somebody else thought so too going back to 2006.

Claim That Sea Level Is Rising Is a Total Fraud

Sea levels began to rise 18k years ago at the end of the last glacial period. They have risen about 135 meters since then which is an average of 7.5 millimeters per year. That is an average of 750 mm per century (29.5 inches) which is far more than the average over the last century.

From 1880 to 2000 sea level rose about 20 cm or just under 8 inches. Far less than the nearly 30 inches per century average over the last 18,000 years.

The “man made” claim is important, but these idiots will try to capitalize on anything, so it doesn’t end there.

IMO < this is a total fraud, designed to move the herd in the direction “the planners” want them go go. (read that Leftists) (can’t get folks to move in your direction, just scare the hell out of them with lies, and watch them fall in line)

That’s not a breaking ground conclusion. It’s just what many have come to recognize as the truth of all this.

Then there’s Al Gore, who has an interest in the concern global warming funds are pumped into.

The guy should be charged with fraud.

From a natural hazards point of view, I think keeping the generators out of the basement is a good idea. Not so much for ocean rise due to global warming, but the possibility of a tsunami - like if that half of the island the East Atlantic (Azores??) breaks off.

Is it pretentious of me to note that this is another project where, in this case, the “state and local officials” have given the ok to spend billions of dollars to develop something that they believe will be underwater in the next two or three decades?

I happen to be a scientist, a real one.

And, as a scientist, I maintain an open mind and a healthy skepticism.

Scientists, real ones, are never afraid to show all of their data and methods, work overtime on quality control, invite criticism and freely expect other scientists to reproduce their work and test their results and conclusions. There is no such thing as "settled science", and the notions of "climate change" and "global warming" due to human activity should be fair game for all researchers interested in rigorously testing such assertions (they are not theories, theories are based on observations and not on computer models.)

Rogue scientists, however, do not disclose all of their methods and cherry pick data, and call those who question their methods "deniers". Rogue scientists have no qualms about using dirty or incomplete data to scare non-scientists in order to gain leverage over them.

“There are two sets of scientists out there, there’s a set that says global warming is real and there’s another set that says the research is not conclusive.

The set of scientists that says global warming is real are composed of those being paid to prove that mankind causes warming.

We need a set of researchers who are not associated with the billions being spent (wasted) on unsettled science.

Could it be that those saying the research is not conclusive are being ignored because they are not backed up by billions of dollars? They just have science and common sense on their side. They would provide a credible analysis of causes of climate change would they not?

The primary cause of climate change is the Sun. There is plenty of research showing that the Sun is the major player in climate change on Earth, Venus, and Mars.

You are describing all of the GlowBull Warming ‘scientists’ when you speak of the “Rogue” scientists. The AGW skeptics are just that, skeptics not absolutists.

It’s global warming, not climate change.

The mangy left named it, they own it, but they don’t own the language. It’s GLOBAL WARMING.
