A 60-year-old Tennessee man who spends time volunteering as Santa Claus at a local hospital granted a 5-year-old terminally ill boy his final wish this holiday season, and held him as he died in his arms.
I spent four years in the Army with the 75th Rangers, and Ive seen my share of [stuff], Eric Schmitt-Matzen told USA Today. But I ran by the nurses station bawling my head off. I know nurses and doctors see things like that every day, but I dont know how they can take it.

Please read the whole article. The story resonates for me. My father passed away on a Christmas Eve after a long struggle, and I wasn't there at his bedside.

There’s a link in the Fox News article to another in USA Today. That’s a real beard & mustache Santa sports. He keeps it groomed & bleached white for his yearly role visiting sick children.

I haven't even read opened up the article and my eyes are tearing up. How heartbreaking and touching, all at the same time...

They say Im going to die, he told me. How can I tell when I get to where Im going? I said, Can you do me a big favor? He said Sure! 'When you get there, you tell them youre Santas No. 1 elf and I know theyll let you in. He said, They will? I said, Sure.
He kind of sat up, and gave me a big hug and asked one more question: Santa can you help me? I wrapped my arms around him. Before I could say anything, he died right there. I let him stay, just kept hugging and holding on to him,

Yes, it was, and frankly still is. I take some comfort in knowing the he went immediately to be with the Lord in Heaven, with his wife & my mother following him to Paradise seven months later. I’ve reasoned that as God was giving us the Christ Child, He took my father, and that was a fair deal.
