The European Union has reached an agreement with the Malian government to facilitate the return of migrants who have reached Europe but subsequently had their asylum requests rejected by the EU.

"It is the first time the EU establishes such a precise mechanism with an African country with regards to returning failed asylum seekers," said a statement from the Dutch foreign ministry, which signed the agreement on the EU's behalf.

I bet that if the if the EU rounded up all the “asylum seekers” and told their families that they would have to pay €1 in ransom to get them back...or they will be executed - that most of their families would refuse to pay the €1.

I am all for us cutting deals to send them back. It would be safer and cheaper in the long run.

It would have to be framed in a way that doesn’t give countries of origin a finanicial incentive to send migrants and then ‘gracefully’ take them back for money.

There needs to be a threat of negative economic and political consequences for any country that refuses to accept returned migrants.

You would bave to do something because the countries don’t want to willingly take back their surplus population. Even their families don’t want them.

Nature has a way of taking care of surplus populations. The EU and USA decided to go against nature and feed these people. The result was a population explosion in a place that couldn’t support all these people. The result has been countless wars and migration to the EU and USA.
