Ghost Ship fire exposes war between Oakland fire chief, union
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | December 11, 2016 | Matier & Ross

The disastrous Ghost Ship fire has intensified long-simmering tensions between Oakland Fire Chief Teresa Deloach Reed and the city’s firefighters union, which for years has been lobbying behind the scenes to get her fired.

At the same time, however, African American community leaders are coming to the chief’s defense, complaining that Mayor Libby Schaaf’s administration may be setting her up to take the blame for the deadly fire.

“I can’t answer how that warehouse slipped through the cracks and that it bypassed our system — or how it bypassed the city’s system,” Deloach Reed told CNN. “But everybody is at the table right now trying to figure out what happened.”

It happened because you were an affirmative action hire and totally unqualified to hold your position.

The question they should be asking is...
How many more Ghost Ship fire traps are out there?
Bet there are at least ten if not 100 scattered
throughout the area.

*GASP*

You can’t hold AA hires to task! They are blameless and innocent, even after proven guilty and/or incompetent!

Check out 0bama for a HUGE point of reference. ;)

The literal money quote....

“We have been pushing (Deloach Reed) every month to make the hires and do the inspections,” said union Vice President Zac Unger. “I don’t know where the money that the City Council budgeted for those positions ended up.”

Anyone else notice how this story is being swept under the rug? How the bureaucracies are finger-pointing and not giving a damn about the victims? If was a multi-million dollar business or corporation, they’d be sued into oblivion.

In many states a percentage of building insurance payments are rebated to municipalities to be used to fund fire inspections. In Wisconsin it amounts to 2 percent.

Well, it kinda is...

Even fire departments are now PC. Here in Atlanta, our very competent AND BLACK fire chief was fired for being a Christian. The “community” reaction: nada, zilch, crickets.

Probably quite true, take a look:

Chief Reed has received many awards during her professional career, including the NAACP Henry Gage Senior “Excellence in Leadership” Award, the IABPFF Black Chief Officers Committee “Metro Lifetime Achievement” Award and the Martin Luther King Association’s “Public Safety and Service” Award.

She holds an Associate in General Education Degree from Evergreen Valley College, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Organizational Leadership from Mountain State University and holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration from National University.

Chief Reed serves on the Black Chief Officers Committee of the International Association of Black Professional Firefighters on the California Fire Chiefs’ Cultural Diversity Committee and is an active member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs.

She sho’ is heavy on the Black this and the Black that! The funny thing is, fire doesn’t check to see what color you are before it burns you to death!

The political appointees souls are forfeited as are the owners, residents and bohemian artists involved in this. They are murderers all.

Well, I will tell you that these “a$$holes in the FF Union” are part of the problem, a big part. I live over the hill from Oakland and I can say with some assurance that these guy’s pay, OT and benefits has something to do with hiring more FFs. I have a good friend who was on our Fire BoD for some time and has now left because FFs from other jurisdictions (most likely Oakland) make so much money that they’ve move to suburbia and now have run and won three of the five board seats. So now it’s Katy bar the door, because they are making it possible for our FFs to get even richer than they already are. The average FF in our district takes home at least $200,000. per year plus benefits and can retire at 50 with a gold balls pension that he didn’t have to put much into. Public “service” employees are going to bankrupt the whole country, just watch them.

“I am suspicious of anyone who uses two last names.”

Me too! It’s particularly offensive with lawyers and judges who seem to think their dealing with the law make them important enough to use three or four names.

What I don’t understand is why any and every insurance company does not pull out of the Oakland market tomorrow. My business is inspected by my carrier every year and my home every five years.

Actually, I just looked up all three of them and they appear to be decent. They are NOT Harvard, and in today’s world, that’s probably a good thing.

True, but I'd like to see if the building that burned even had a policy. If the Asian woman who owned it, owned it outright, she's under no obligation from a lender to carry fire insurance. Of course, now, even if she has insurance, the insurance company is going to take a powder because of her extreme negligence.

My business property is paid for but still carry a $10 million per incident and $30 million overall policy. It’s not for replacement value but for overall liability.
