Netanyahu Wants To Scuttle The Iran Deal, Thinks Trump Can Help

60 MINUTES Leslie Stahl (skip)

He’s says he’s going to see Mr. Trump soon to lobby him to scuttle the deal. The president-elect has called the agreement “stupid” and “a disgrace.” But Trump’s choice for defense secretary, General James Mattis, has advised against pulling out.

Lesley Stahl: If it were to be abrogated wouldn’t that put you in a more precarious position than you are now? Because they would obviously then rush to the bomb.

Benjamin Netanyahu: I think Iran didn’t rush to the bomb before there was a deal.

Lesley Stahl: Really?

Benjamin Netanyahu: No, because they were afraid of retribution.

Lesley Stahl: But if-- OK, you get rid of the deal. Then what?

Benjamin Netanyahu: I think what options we have are much more than you think. Many more. And I’ll talk about it –

Lesley Stahl: Like what?

Benjamin Netanyahu: --with President Trump. Well, I think quite a few, actually.

Lesley Stahl: Because if you, you know, put sanctions back on, the other signatories to the deal won’t.

Benjamin Netanyahu: There are ways, various ways of undoing it.

Lesley Stahl: You have something in your mind.

Benjamin Netanyahu: Yeah, I have about five things in my mind.

Lesley Stahl: Well, give me one.

Can Netanyahu move to Wisconsin and replace Paul Ryan if he Likud somehow loses the next election? I think Bibi has dual citizenship.

The USA needs to get back all that cash that Obama gave to the Iranians. What a total ripoff of the US taxpayer.

Bibi has been The Leader of The Free World for the last eight years ~ now, he finally has the USA backing Israel again; and I can't wait to watch him open a can of 'whoop-ass'...

WITH the socalled Iran deal, Iran still lists USA cities as its planned TOP PRIORITY TARGETS for the nuclear bombs and ICBM’s Obama’s enabling them to amass

IF IF IF DJT can remove the iranian nuclear bomb and icbm factories (actually USE our wonderful USAF as it is intended, cancelling Obama’s “protect Iran” illegal orders)

and or if DJT can actually negotiate away the Iranian dangers for sure,
THEN WONDERFUL!

the western world does not listen to the Iranian islamoNazi dictators
just like the western world did not listen to the Gernan Nazi dictator some years ago (and he came within a few weeks of being able to nuke us dead)

The Iran Deal is unenforceable because it is unconstitutional and, therefore, illegal. Trump believes in loyalty to contracts but unenforceable contracts should be abandoned.

Trump can pull the U.S. out of the agreement but that won’t stop Europe and the rest of the world from continuing with the agreement.

That’s okay because I fully believe in the IAF’s targeting abilities. :)

You make very important point - the ‘Deal’ has NEVER been binding, nor ever shall it become binding; simply because the document is not worth the paper it was printed on, and it can NOT be binding without ratification!

Great post...

One pathetic aspect of this Clown Prince nobama illegality is that iranians never signed it. Pathetic, I wonder just who was the SOS during this time? Was it yet another criminal and chronic liar? I wonder...

I could be wrong, but I think the main purpose of the deal was for the US to release the billions of dollars frozen from Iran after the hostage crisis. Now, they've got the money.

Trump says he is planning on sending Jared to sort out the middle east. I don’t think he’s really given a lot of thought to this. Most likely he lets sleeping dogs lie and focuses on domestic issues.

I don’t want this taken the wrong way, but we should do this irregardless of what Bibi’s take on it is.

This is a global matter, and when it comes to nukes that’s a just cause. There’s no way we should allow Iran a nuclear weapons program, or anything close.

Further, their long range missile program needs about a 500 year delay as well. We can always review then.

I agree with that, but man has opportunities to better his own position at times. We can’t sit around waiting for God to do it all for us.

We have been a creative giant. We were blessed with that in some ways by God (IMO), so that we could make the world a better place.

In times of old, he blessed kings for this very reason.

While there certainly will be more pressure on Iran to obey the terms of the deal, perhaps some renegotiation, I don’t think a complete US withdrawal from the deal would be smart or feasible. Trump is aiming for good relations with Russia, defeating ISIS and avoiding yet another disastrous military adventure in the Middle East. You can’t do that by confronting Iran overly harshly. Russia and China are heavily invested in Iran’s defence.

I see Netanyahus posturing as playing the “bad cop” to Putins “good cop”, with Trump as the “deal maker” in between.
