Some who inhabit FreeRepublic would consider Mr. Stewart weak for putting friendship above politics

True enough...I won’t sacrifice my principles for a friendship...

Then again, it’s possible to disagree without being disagreeable, and keep friends with whom one disagrees about politics by agreeing to disagree and remaining friends...

Some of my oldest and closest friends are Democrats and voted for Hillary...They understand I detest her and her ilk, their politics, and why, so we’ve agreed to refrain from discussing those subjects and remain friendly...They’re never going to change my mind nor I theirs, so why get angry over it?

I think this is likely what Stewart and Fonda chose...
