Perry Said to Be Trump’s Top Candidate for Energy Secretary
Bloomberg Politics ^ | 12/11/2016 | Jennifer Jacobs and Jennifer A Dlouhy

Donald Trump has narrowed his search for energy secretary to four people, with former Texas Governor Rick Perry the leading candidate.

People familiar with the president-elect’s selection process said two Democratic senators from energy-producing states -- Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota and Joe Manchin of West Virginia -- are also in the mix, along with Ray Washburne, a Dallas investor and former chairman of the Republican National Committee.

If Trump picks any of the four he’ll break with recent tradition of putting scientists at the top of the Energy Department. Among other things, the agency is responsible for policies on the safe handling of nuclear material and on emerging energy technologies.

Trump met with Perry and Washburne while attending the Army-Navy football game in Baltimore on Saturday. It was at least the second time he’d spoken to the men for potential roles in the new administration. Trump interviewed Heitkamp at Trump Tower in New York on Dec. 2, and is scheduled to meet with Manchin on Monday.

as Alaska sec of energy before she became Gov Palin drained the swamp.

Palin would like to open Anwar for exploration using horizontal drilling.

I am thinking that she deserves winning Michigan for TRUMP.
PALIN WAS A SURROGATE FOR DJT IN MICHIGAN JUST BEFORE THE ELECTION.

ITS CLEAR THAT RUDY, PALIN, CHRISTIE AND NEWT WERE TOP CAMPAIGNERS FOR TRUMP. NONE OF THESE TALENTED PEOPLE HAVE A ROLE IN MAKING AMERICA GREAT AGAIN. VERY DISAPPOINTING.

Perry is knowledgeable and money conscience.

I think he'd work out fine....whittling the department down to a workable force, disposing of worthless entities.

In case anyone doesn’t remember the details on Rick Perry’s embarrassing presidential campaign slip four years ago:

_____________________________________________________________

Perry, at GOP Debate four years ago: “Let me tell you, it’s three agencies that are gone when I get there. Commerce, Education, and the um, what’s the third one there?”

Mitt Romney: “EPA?”

Perry (after saying it wasn’t EPA): “The third agency I would do away with…the…ahh…Education…ahh…Commerce, and, let’s see . . . I can’t, the third one. I can’t. Sorry. Oops.”

Perry (a few minutes later): “The Department of Energy”.

_____________________________________________________________

I’m not into symbolism, and I don’t think picking Rick Perry for Energy is merely symbolic. I hope it’s a serious effort to let Perry accomplish what he wanted done.

Except for Palin, they will all be on call for Trump.

Palin will likely live out her life in Alaska.

The Commerce dept will become pretty important in the Trump admin since we’d be going after all those bad trade deals that other republicans would just sign off on

I am completely okay with eliminating the federal Department of Education.

I don’t want Commerce completely eliminated, just cut back. So we probably agree on that one.

As for Energy, it would take some time (a year or so) to transfer their nuclear weapons responsibilities to the Department of Defense. I’d love to see Governor Perry in charge of that mission and then shutting down Energy.

We have no full knowledge of what trump has discussed with these people you mention.

It’s not for us to get hurt feelings should he not choose to put them in his cabinet etc positions to start with.

Trump has shown he is not opposed to swapping out people who show themselves not to be working out as intended.

Ridiculous to think he would campaign against the political appointments for favors and help that so many leaders have done and then you think he should do that very thing?

Plenty of ways to show appreciation to people who helps you without just appointing them to positions if you feel they are not the best person or maybe they don’t want an appointment or many other reasons Trump has not chosen them for these positions.

I don’t want any Islamist bastard who granted Sharia courts to American Muslims with the stroke of a pen anywhere near our nuclear arsenal.

No to La Raza Rick.

The Dallas Morning News had a hit piece on this today which succeeded in trashing both Trump and Perry.

They did not mention that Perry was the longest serving governor of Texas with a great record. They did mention the slip alluded to about the Energy Department and some piddly lawsuit against Perry.

This would be a great pick.

I know that this seems a logical thing to do, but the DOD manages its responsibilities even worse than the DOE. The major weapons functions are actually performed at Lawrence Livermore Laboratory, Los Alamos Laboratory and Sandia. The DOD record on laboratory management is abysmal. They have pretty much killed off their own laboratories and it is widely known that they have done so.

Right now, despite the ineptness of the DOE, the above laboratories are still pretty highly regarded.

How about transferring the existing Department of Energy lab management to Department of Defense, keeping them in charge of Sandia, Livermore, etc, and giving them the DOD labs too? I’d like to see Energy gone completely so it’s harder to bloat again when the big government side takes power again (which I expect in eight years - the goal is to move the ball as far down field as possible).

Hiring RINOs will get them legislating and having conservatives in power.
