Willing to share more of your theory?
Mine theory is that they feel empathy for people who are most like themselves: criminals. Then add in a lot of “white guilt.”
I also know more than a few people on both sides of the aisle who prefer to associate with people who are dumber/poorer/uglier than themselves, depending on what they are most insecure about. They need this to make themselves feel smart/successful/good-looking.

And if a bullfrog had wings he wouldn’t have to bump his rump along. Actually there are millions upon millions in this country who DON’T love freedom. You cannot have freedom while yelling for the government to fix your every problem, the two are mutually exclusive. People who really love freedom just want the government to get out of the way, that description applies to only a small minority of Americans.
Close. But ask yourself - what is the common ground between elites and the criminal class... it also explains why Hollywood makes movies that glorify criminals. Not ready to share - I'm still in the 'thinking about it' stage.
OK, BUT...they have to live only among the liberal elite who insist that they be admitted.
