The Democratic National Committee was apparently using incredibly weak passwords for some of its accounts, according to internal emails recently published online.
An email thread from May 2016 reveals that an account for the party's press email, dncpress@dnc.org, apparently had passwords such as "Obama-Biden-2012" and "obamain08" at some point in time.

I was on 4chan one night after the latest Wikileak dropped.
Podesta hadn’t changed his password AFTER he’d been hacked.
Some idiots on 4chan went into his Apple account. Posted photos. Downloaded whatever he had on there.
These folks aren’t the brightest bulbs. The “hacking” was likely the result of losing Blackberries (Podesta lost 2 or 3) or some ticked off DNC worker who didn’t like Bernie getting shafted.
Podesta clicked on spam and then entered is password.
And then didn’t CHANGE his password after he’d been hacked.
I think Hillary fell for one of those as well.
I think the DNC one was an inside job. Surely someone there was pissed about the complete collusion.

Back in WWII the British obtained an enigma coding machine and some code books and started trying to decode Nazi messages. They needed a 6 letter operator to operator code word which was locally established at command level to unlock the entire layering of keycodes.
