Draining the Swamp: Ted Cruz and Ron DeSantis to Propose Constitutional Amendment on Term Limits
Breitbart ^ | December 9, 2016 | Ken Kew

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) have revealed their plans to introduce a constitutional amendment that will impose term limits for both congressmen and senators.

In a joint op-ed for The Washington Post, the two Republican firebrands said that term limits would be an effective way for the new Republican administration to “drain the swamp.”

“We believe that the rise of political careerism in modern Washington is a drastic departure from what the founders intended of our federal governing bodies. To effectively “drain the swamp,” we believe it is past time to enact term limits for Congress.”

A policy of congressional term limits was repeatedly advocated for by President-elect Donald Trump during his presidential campaign, with Speaker of the House Paul Ryan also voicing his support for the idea.

The amendment would impose a three term limit for members of congress and a two term limit for senators.

Both Cruz and DeSantis also point to the “broad support” for congressional term limits, citing a Ramussen survey conducted in October that showed 74% of likely voters supported the idea.

This will go nowhere in congress and is all for show. Pigs at the trough will never vote to limit themselves. I’ve really soured on Levin over the last year, but he’s on target when he says the only way to term limit congress and the supremes is via Article V.

Don’t need term limits for congress. Do away with congressional retirements, health care perks, as citizens they stay subject to the laws they pass,

Do away with their ability to insider trade. When they can no longer enrich themselves at the taxpayers ( citizens ) expense they will not stay in DC long.

Yup. There is no way a majority of them will vote for it.

The only way to limit terms is a convention of the states.

Unfortunately, you’re probably correct. I’d add to that another aspect of the Article V movement - repeal of the 17th Amendment that would return power to the states in the national legislative process.

We the people have term limits in our hands.
We, the voters of VA-7, showed the rest of the country how it’s done when we Cantorized the weasel Eric Cantor.

Unfortunately, there is no way to do any of that stuff. Congress simply is not going to vote for any limit on its power and perks.

I am reminded of the old story about the mice who were afraid of the cat. They finally settled on the brilliant idea of putting a bell on the cat. Which they soon realized was impossible.

If someone doesn’t propose it, then it will never even get started.

However, the backup is for states to propose it, if Congress fails to do so. While it is a remote possibility that an Article V convention will be called, it is a lesser threshold than for approving an amendment in any case.

If Cruz was the man of integrity he pretends to be he should propose an amendment clarifying what natural born citizen means, born here of citizen parents, so we don’t suffer another usurpation like the disastrous Kenyanesian Usurpation.

He won’t because he isn’t one.
His ambition supersedes his devotion to the Constitution.

I don’t agree with this. I like my Congressperson. Don’t throw out those with a good track record.

Even if it does not pass, I hope there is a recorded vote. That way we can use it against the No’s next election...

Its going to go nowhere.

That said, term limits for Congress were part of the original Republican Contract With America in 1994.

Career politicians are the worst thing ever inflicted upon our country.

We already have term limits, but people don't understand it...it's called the ‘Voting Block’ ... we just used it to get rid of the Formaldehyde witch and her cronies...but for some reason every one just marks the box R or D or I or G or L and goes on with their lives...

I did not vote for Mike Lee R of Utah nor did I vote for Mia Love R for Utah...and I'm a Republican...I voted for the I because I hate the D's beyond words...and that includes the RINO’s like RINO RYAN, McLame, Linda Graham, Mitch the turtle...why don't people try voting for others rather than keep sending the same people back???

Repealing the 17th Amendment would be a far better solution.

Eliminate Democrat election fraud and there would be no need for term limits.
