America’s disempowered majority
San Jose Mercury ^ | December 8, 2016 | E.J. Dionne Jr.

Posted on 12/08/2016 5:50:42 PM PST by artichokegrower

Starting next month, the United States will have a minority government.

This assertion flies in the face of just about everything you have read, since the Republicans will control the White House, the Senate and the House of Representatives. But the American system of representation, invented 229 years ago for 13 states that hugged the Atlantic shore, is more than ever out of tune with how the country’s citizens have distributed themselves, across now 50 states and between metropolitan areas and the countryside.

Worse still, a government put in place by the peculiar workings of an outdated system

Hey E.J. that outdated system is the Constitution and many have raised their right hands to defend it. Don't push too hard because you might not like the response.

"On only three occasions from the first presidential election in 1788 through 1996 did the loser of the popular vote become president. "

Clinton didn't get a majority AFAICR. Twice!

“Outdated” as if the “modern” system should allow illegals, criminals, felons, deceaseds, multiple ballots voters, absentee ballot filler-outers, non-English speaking, recent “citizens,” conflicted/bribed welfare staters, Millennial Snowflakes, and urbanites to determine the most powerful position on Earth?

THAT “system” EJ?

These circumstances call for compromise... I fear that we will be seeing none of this.

Be afraid. Be very afraid. Trump's cabinet picks have been excellent.

Dionne doesn’t like federalism and the meritocratic features of our constitutional system?

They’re called checks and balances, stupid. They have prevented tyranny and mob rule in America for over two centuries.

Dionne considers them outdated. We consider them the venerable heritage the Founders of our country bequeathed to us.

And we will defend our Constitution and our republic to our last breath. This is the rock along with our faith in God on which America is built.

As timeless as our country - fashions may change and leaders will come and go but American values will always endure.

The real disempowered majority are the actual citizens of the USA, whose votes and culture are in danger of being dwarfed by the huge invasion of illegal foreigners who are allowed to vote illegally and who the Democrats want to grant citizenship to.

Some of these people have no desire and no intent to assimilate, and some are forthright in stating that they want American citizens - particularly the people from European decent eliminated from the population.

The Senate and House are popular votes bud. No “minority” issue there.
