It does turn off the brain. As obsessive as it sounds, I am in a good place when I notice I am silently counting (to 8 over & over again) matching the rhythm of my hand going back & forth over the wood.
I prefer the real wood, too. I don’t have any synthetic stuff. In addition to the 700, I also have a left hand 870 12 guage. It’s very nice. All my other guns are bigoted right hand pieces, although the Winchester Model 94 30-30 is as close to ambidextrous as you can get.
Many medals but no CIB. Wondering.
When I need a break from the world I get a hot tea spiked with rum, turn on favorite classical, new age, or movie score, and create; big saw puzzles, plastic models and dioramas, play chess or war games. The entire universe shrinks to the size of the table. So, as long as students do not get a pass on assignments or projects, I don’t care if they color to relieve stress. Also time and place of course.
Of course I have noise makers on the entrance doors as I am in condition white but do have a GLOCK on my hip

Hear that sharp "Crack!"?
That's the sonic boom of a rifle round passing within inches of your head.
~~~~~~~~~~
Feel your ears scrunched down somewhere below the level of your collarbones?
That's stress.
Want genuine stress relief?
Drop your crayons, and...
SHOOT BACK -- and kill the SOB who's shooting at you...
I’m the dumbass in a family with at least 4-5 graduates. It’s damn hurtful to VMI come to this.
Coloring books! Stay within the lines, the lines are our friend.
Peay was an artilleryman,so no CIB even if he was an FO with an infantry company in Viet Nam. He did two tours in Viet Nam and along the way got a Purple Heart, and a Silver Star. I don’t know about the citations, as I didn’t find them on line. I would say he heard some shots fired in anger.
I did not know they made a left-hand 870.
although I prefer Browning BPS shotguns, bottom ejection, handy for a leftie.
