Retired four-star general and superintendent of the Virginia Military Institute J. H. Binford Peay III released a memorandum to cadets, parents, and faculty following the Washington Free Beacons bombshell report that the famed military academy was offering coloring books to cadets to deal with stress before finals.
.
.
The memo argued Stress Busters has been inaccurately portrayed. The memo does not address the fact that VMI removed its own description of the program from its website, which described the stress reduction activities, including coloring book stations, after the Free Beacons initial report.
Recent social media postings have inaccurately portrayed the stress busters program as including coloring books, Gen. Peay said. A far more accurate and realistic description of our efforts are as follows.
Gen. Peay then defends the activities, noting that they do not involve coloring books, but only a coloring page.

We are so screwed. Use this Trump era to create a secure future for yourself.
This is just taking the piss out of the military now.
Is it not enough for obama to have ruined the military wit his social crap, but now this !!!
Can someone fire this guys ass, I’m so damn sick of these PC pansybutt snowflakes.
They should know the best way to deal with stres is time at the range. A left-hand Remington 700 and a couple boxes of ammo gets a lot of stress out.
Coloring is a way to turn off your brain. Much like cleaning a weapon 6 or 9 times in a row. Engineering schools discovered it years ago.
I clean silver.
Gen Peay is a solid guy and served as asst div commander and div commander for the 10qst airborne when I was there in the late 80’s. He took them to desert storm and perfectly executed his part of the famous hail mary designed by Schwarzkopf.
He’s a solid general. I suspect a piece of this story is missing.
I found a few packs of Marlboros to be simpler and more direct.
My daughter has diagnosed anxiety issues. She does intricate coloring books, puzzles, etc. as a way to get her mind off of things. Of course breaking clay pigeons on the weekends is her best and favorite therapy.
I colored during college twenty years ago - it really is ok to enjoy yourself during college...
101st
I graduated from another military college so it does not surprise me that the tender Keydets need counseling whenever something happens they don’t like. Bless their hearts!
I carve wood. With really, really sharp knives.
Imagine in WWII, the pilots get a briefing on a bombing raid over Germany and expected to survive massive fighter attacks before the target and flak at the target.
Then after the briefing, a Sgt in the back of the room passes out coloring books and crayons to ease the stress, something they can take with them on their aircraft.
Or Gen Patton telling his tank commanders anyone wanting to stay back in a safe space is excused from the next battle.
You are so correct! But . . .
I’m so jealous!
Left-handed rifleman, but alas no left-hand bolts.
My 700 left hand 30-06 with the 3x9 Bushnell is a thing of beauty. It makes very nice groups.
want a 250 Sav., but they stopped making them, or at least I believe they stopped making them.
FYI I will not own a bolt-action rifle with a synthetic stock, I want wood, not hardened polymer goo.
Am I being too opinionated? :)
The most annoying guy in my office is a VMI grad. I hope this story lasts long enough for him to get back from reserve duty next week.
