seems this judge has no choice but to end it.
The 6th Circuit, in affirming Goldsmith's order, said: "If subsequently, the Michigan courts determine the ... recount is improper under Michigan state law for any reason, we expect the district court to entertain any properly filed motions to dissolve or modify this order in this case."

Case has not reached the MI supreme court. I suspect district court is waiting for all appeals from Stein to be exhausted.

Even if he orders it to continue, it makes no difference except as a purely academic exercise to support his obviously (and yugely) over-inflated ego. As of this moment, any result of the "recount" is a legal nullity.
Only the MI Supreme Court could possibly change that fact.

"If subsequently, the Michigan courts determine the ... recount is improper under Michigan state law for any reason..."Since "the Michigan courts" have not yet so determined--only a court has done so (the Michigan Supreme Court has yet to be heard)--therefore, the District Court Judge is still in full compliance with the 6th Circuit if he punts for now, pending Stein's presumed appeal to the MiSC.
