Since Donald Trumps election, the mainstream media have been by turns hysterical and condescending. Whether its Trumps rebuke of the cast of Hamilton or his phone call with Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen, the press seems to think were already on the verge of a constitutional crisis at the hands of a dangerous yet idiotic president-elect.
... underscores a troubling lack of curiosity in the press that Trumps election has done nothing to mitigate. Right now, the media should be asking themselves: Why did Trump win white college graduates? Why did he outperform Mitt Romney among blacks and Hispanics? Why did lifelong Democrats in the Rust Belt vote for him?
If the mainstream press wanted to understand and explain Trumps appeal, they could talk to any one of the millions of ordinary Americans with non-crazy views who voted for him. Instead, the media have gravitated toward fringe supporters and conspiracy theoriststhe New Hampshire lawmakers who claimed that millions of people voted illegally, the handful of white supremacists who praised Trump at a recent conference in Washington DC, the malign influence of Alex Jones and readers of Infowars.
By insisting on an ideological narrative at the expense of honest reporting, and by reacting with hysterics every time Trump tweets something provocative, journalists are undermining their credibility. As fun as it is to laugh at hysterical journalists, we actually need them to be credible because they have an important job to do: hold the incoming Trump administration accountable for real abuses of power.
...
But that brings up another question:
What does it mean for the mainstream media to hold Trump accountable?
They will hit him if he doesn't keep his campaign promises; and they will hit him even harder if he does.
.
The “media” has abandoned half of America, and that half, no longer believes them.
That changes things enormously.
America no longer believes our media. The media is increasingly irrelevant.
“The media has abandoned half of America, and that half, no longer believes them.”
Very good point!
I’ll worry about Trump when the media starts telling me he’s on the right track. I think I’ll have to wait a long time before I worry about Trump.
...the mainstream media’s single-minded focus on destroying Trump undermines their credibility....
And this kind of obvious bias went a long way to Trump’s victory. . Democrats and the media did it to themselves.
The actual truth is that mainstream media is populated by idiots, thumb-suckers, morons and degenerates.
The greater majority of everyone employed in that industry is incapable of functioning outside of their self created safe-space echo chamber.
Contrary to popular belief and myth, there never was a period of our history where the mainstream media, in whatever form it took, was anything other than what it is today. It is only now that the population has tech with which to communicate widely, constantly and quickly enough to protect ourselves from the emotional/psychological predators that flock to ‘journalism’ like thieves flock to politics.
Doesn't matter one iota what the mainstream media says or does before or after his inauguration. Trump, and us, do not need them. They were so utterly wrong about Hillary, there is absolutely no trust whatsoever in anything that comes out of their mouths, written opinion or "news" articles. They committed journalistic suicide and there is no recovery from suicide. I hope Trump bans a significant number of them from WH briefings. They went out of their way to discredit Trump and to misinform the citizens-voters of America.
Whatever they say from here on in is nothing more than background noise. Same for the celebrities who went berserk selling themselves and their souls to the female devil incarnate.
Apparently acknowledging an obvious reality makes you a "conspiracy theorists" in this nit-wit's eyes.
No, I did not bother to read any further.
It would be like reading a book by Michael Mann
“Why The Mainstream Media Cant Hold Trump Accountable”
Uhmmmmm,
Cuz they’re retarded as p-huck?
There's a verb tense problem with this sentence. They've already given up their credibility, so they've given up their ability to hold him accountable. And that's fine ... those who supported him will keep a much harder eye on him than the fake media ever did Obama/Hillary etc.
I like Trump a lot, have since the beginning, but most of us who always liked him recognize that the very thing we like requires that we watch him like a Focker. I don't see the Ingraham's, Hannity's etc giving him a free pass, but he's also earned some extra rope on the leash. You can't fix a totally broken republic with the same tools you would use to maintain an operational republic.
I may be a sick ba$$turd...but somehow I'm starting to enjoy the MSM rants as a new form of comedy entertainment....
#1: He’s smarter than all of them put together.
I understand that the mediots believe that they need to hold Trump “accountable”. The question is for accountable what?
He’s not the president, yet.
Accountable for dismantling their shibboleths? Deporting illegal aliens? and muslim soldiers? for exposing the pure villainy of the demcoRATS and their failed policies?
Further, would they have held hILLary accountable? Or, would there have been the daily orgasm that passed for news about Onambla?
We all know that the mediots would have given us the daily orgasm about Saint hILLary and how just how absolutely fantabulous she is, how samrt, how beautiful, how she is the third coming (Onambla was the second coming) of Christ as a woman. It would have been nauseating.
The MSM is still relevant and dangerous. Although Trump won the election, the MSM were very successful at fooling most of the people most of the time.
We all know good people who don’t know any better, who parrot what they hear from the MSM as the given truth: Trump is a racist, Bannon is a white supremacist, Trump is a misogynist, etc, etc. A lot of them don’t pay much attention to politics. They have been brainwashed and intimidated to believe that Fox News and Rush Limbaugh are evil and that Trump supporters are a bunch of racists.
The MSM was able to successfully intimidate a lot of Trump supporters into keeping quiet before the election. They are still trying to do that. The MSM are a bunch of totalitarian despots who will do vile and nasty things to fight for the Left.
We can’t let down on the MSM. They are still powerful enough to distort everything Trump does and derail his presidency. Even though some people are catching on, there is still a sizable number of people who believe them.
.
Many in America have wised up to the brokered media ...
You nailed it. I recall trying to figure out what war Rather and his contemporaries were talking about. What they “reported” bore absolutely no resemblance to the war I was involved in while in Viet Nam
We kicked ass during Tet yet it was reported as a complete and utter defeat for American forces.
“undermines their credibility”
What credibility?
At our house, Twitter trumps the MSM

Well and truly said. A news media gone bad is an extremely dangerous enemy of the very people who unwittingly rely upon it for truthful information about what’s happening in the world. Most news seekers are so enthralled by the professional aura of the media pundits that they are incapable of believing that much of what they’re being told is distorted, misleading, and untrue.
