Trump and the Secretary of State “Brand” Decision
Dilbert by Scott Adams ^ | December 6, 2016 | Scott Adams

The most important job opening that Trump has to fill – at least from a “brand” perspective – is Secretary of State. You can get away with hiring loyal supporters for less-visible cabinet positions, but you need to get the Secretary of State job right because it directly reflects on the brand of the presidency. And Trump knows branding...

Huntsman has good experience and he presents himself well. But he’s too handsome for the job. Brand-wise, Trump is better off surrounding himself with highly-capable people who don’t suck too much attention out of a room. You might think that isn’t important, but it is from a persuasion standpoint. I liked Trump’s pick of Pence because Pence is the boring, monochromatic version of Trump that makes Trump look like a star when they stand together. You need the same contrast for Secretary of State...

Rohrabacher would be an interesting choice. He fits Trump’s brand the best because he’s a pragmatic, straight-talking Republican. And if you see him standing next to Trump, you know which one of them is the president. The visual element matters more than you think, given that all the candidates are qualified...

Mitt Romney’s always looked like he came straight from central casting, he’s practically President In A Can, instant POTUS. But, he sure looked like a whipped puppy anywhere around Donald Trump in those photos of his meeting and dinner.

Sundance at CTH recently discussed the SoS choice and said the following:

“But there’s a problem that most have overlooked. Rudy Giuliani has a visible issue with excessive alcohol use.”

I have not heard this anywhere else, and of course it’s not the kind of thing that is usually publicly discussed, but I wonder if it is credible. Sundance has a decent reputation but is not infallible and yet it seems high risk to say this if he wasn’t able to be certain it was true.

All of the "contrast" reasons put forth means Dr Sebastian Gorka is the ideal candidate for Secy of State.

Dr Gorka has the smarts and the conservative gravitas.

He has defended Donald at every turn.

And as a plain man, he presents an ideal contrast to TV Star Trump.

Scott Adams gets leadership in many ways, and he nailed this election. Still, some times I hope he's wrong. Good looking as a flaw (or as a trait to consider either way)? Please, no.

I would love to see him put in the Exxon CEO. The dems put in the biggest friggin losers in these positions.

There is no going back. Trump will raise the bar from here on out, for people who are business minded.

God, does good things for people who will protect the riches he bestows on you. I hope he will do this also to our nation.

This is like American idol. And not in a bad way. He is doing it this way probably instinctively but one result is that we are going to be invested in a sec state, who will be our rep and who will clean up the corrupt disaster that was there for Hillary to take over and make into a confidence game staging arena.

The level of takeover she did, the practices, deals and give always are likely beyond anything even Shakespeare applied to bad political characters. Biblical level, one should imagine. She desperately clings to the hope that she can make up votes in Florida now just to stay out of a worse fate than a lifetime supply of orange polyester

If SOS is the most important for his “brand” then Obama screwed up so badly that Trump could put my toaster in the position and come out aces....
