Pretty much what I said in #26.
“Russia must raise it’s level of performance in carrier equipment, operations and readiness.”
Actually, I think they’re doing just fine. I’d rather our enemies not be too combat ready :)
Isn’t this the aircraft carrier they send to the Mediterranean without any provisions for refueling it? Did they ever find a port or are they just running tankers all the way from the North Sea?
PacFlt policy was for ships to top off their fuel bunkers upon return to port. USS Arizona had a fuel capacity of 1.5 million gallons. about 1 million gallons was lost during the explosion and sinking. About 500,000 gallons of NSFO still remains in her tanks. She seeps about 7-10 quarts of fuel oil a year into the Pearl Harbor waters surrounding her.
I've read that over 100 Chinese pilots have died training to land on an aircraft carrier.
Also, the most stressful job in the world is landing on an aircraft carrier at night. The 2nd most stressful, landing on an aircraft carrier in the day time.
I found this in a search:
The 10 Most (And Least) Stressful Jobs Of 2016
Also:
It turns out...
Estimated amounts of oil:
1.5 million gallons in tanks on December 7, 1941
1/3 (500,000 gallons) destroyed the day of the attack
1/3 (500,000 gallons) lost in the next 2 ½ days
1/3 (500,000 gallons) estimated remainder on December 10, 1941
Initial leakage: 2 quarts per day
Current leakage: 8 to 9 quarts per day.
If the hull holds, probably going to last awhile.
LOL!! looks like a picture of all the Russians on Free Republic
"You've lost another aircraft?"
