And he would have won the popularity vote if those were the rules.

“If you erase the Electoral College then 30 of the states will no longer have a say in presidential elections. Once that happens there’s no more rationale for those states remaining as participant members of the United States.”

It is such a simple concept. It is easy to obscure it, though, for self absorbed fools who don’t live in those states.

I think this is also an attempt on the part of a desperate state run media to steal the effective words “tea party” for their own use. Up to now, that has been our moniker and ours alone.

...Hillary Clinton’s decisive popular vote victory ...

For all Conservatives\republicans,\non Hillary lovers, the meme should be:

The Founders believed in protecting the minority from the tyranny of the majority. It’s why the word “democracy” doesn’t even appear in the Constitution.

The author is arguing that the system is "undemocratic" because rural states are given larger per capita weight in presidential elections than densely populated urban states. He goes on to declare that the densely populated urban states create a vast majority of the wealth and tax revenue while the rural states receive the majority of welfare subsidies. He feels that this is an example of "Taxation without Representation" and is therefor unfair.

Besides the fact that these urban states are carrying gargantuan levels of debt, it could also be argued that the rural states would not require the welfare subsidies had it not been for the idiotic policies dreamed up by the urban elites, which ruined the livelihoods of those rural populations in the first place!

The balance of power is essential, otherwise tyranny of the mob (emotions) will rule over Reason. It is easy to corral the masses with rhetoric in the big cities, esp. when you control all the “news” and all the indoctrination centers which form the minds of the future Marxists and masses of sheeple (useful idiots). There is no Free Will when there is no Freedom of Information (and all the Secret Societies/elite secret government “deals”). We haven’t had a Free Press, forever, except for little pockets with the McClure magazine until they were taken over. Now, with the internet, we have the ability to FINALLY get the TRUTH. But you have to “seek” it. Most people now are too lazy and couldn’t understand it anyhow with their indoctrination for 12 years and the family unit being basically destroyed so Reason (Natural Laws) is inconceivable.

People have been told they live in a “democracy” for decades in most of the skools. It is a lie and it is meant to destroy Reason/Logic and understanding of our Constitution. The same with the words “right”and “left” and “marriage”, and “rainbow”, “family” and “Christian”. They are elite Satanists that control most of our information and they need everything flipped (upside down) so Up is Down, Vice is Virtue and Boys are Girls to destroy Christianity and get a One World Order that HW Bush spoke of and pushed for so that a few psychopathic elites can create a totalitarian system where there is no Free Will-—everyone will be interchangeable cattle with no individual Natural Rights from God-—only “collective” (group) rights from our Masters/Oligarchy, so all the Wisdom of the Ages (Christian Ethics) has to be destroyed and hypersexulization of our children, to objectify and emotionalize all the sheeple-—so they are ignorant slaves for ever. (Vice creates Slaves only-—and Jefferson understood that Socratic wisdom, that Virtue is essential in a “free” nation.)

Virtue is instilled with hard word and perseverance in the Natural Family (growing up, working on the farm) and never achieved if you are given everything in life without embedding virtue by working and learning agency (self-reliance/understanding Natural Laws/God’s Laws)-—thinking for self). Only Christianity created Free Will and our “Justice” system. The government took total control of our children with mandatory indoctrination centers where they wrote all the “curricula” where Up is Down and Evil is Good (like baby-killing (abortion) and sodomy and fornication, divorce/polygamy is now “normalized” to destroy the Natural family unit and emotional health and virtue formation of children. Destruction of the family cripples the necessary force against power of government. It is easy to take over, control unconnected people who don’t care about their children or spouse.

Skools train children to use emotions and NEVER use “logic”, which is in ALL Classical Christian curricula. There is no ability to “think” for self without the philosophy of the Ancients. There would have been no Age of Reason or John Locke (US Constitution) without them and the ethics of Christianity which single-handedly ended slavery as a “good”. The elites are trying to create the old “serf”/slave system so the elites control everything again and can kill off billions for their NWO.

The Left has destroyed the Words-—twisted the “Just” laws to force socialism (vice) on the masses in this country. Literally, normalizing socialism like in Europe to destroy the virtue in children. As Jefferson worried, farmers were much more virtuous on average than city dwellers; the Reality of Life was much more rational and doing one’s
Natural Duty could mean life or death. Immoral people ended up dead.

Destroy the meaning of Words and you remove Reason and the ability to “think”. Uneducated, ignorant people will always vote for emotions over Reason; Security over Freedom. That is why John Dewey took over the school curricula in the 1930s, to eliminate the virtue formation in the young which Classical Education usually instilled. Our graduates “think” we live in a Democracy and “think” socialism is GREAT, when it is pure slavery and tyranny of government. They have no ability “to think”——and , as Jefferson knew, that would mean slavery for the masses if the majority become ignorant of Truth (God) and unable to use Reason/Logic (be a rational human being—instead of cattle).

The Tea Party “coalesced” when Bush was President.

Here's what the New York Times wants to do: switch the rules so Democrats benefit. That's all that's happening here - gussied up fine writing... with zero principle behind it - well, other than 'advantage'.

I would add that if we had kept expanding the House of Representatives as the population increased, this ‘problem’ would not be nearly as bad. If there was one rep per 100,000 people, then California would have 390 electoral votes, and Wyoming would have 8.

Right. The tea party is anti-tax. Those liberal states and people are about high taxes, carbon taxes, transfers of wealth, elitism, toll roads, etc...Another NY Times liefest.

Right on, both of you.

Esp. with what’s been taught in schools nowadays, they twist the original intent of the Founding Fathers however they want.

Sometimes I figure that’s what Leftists are waiting for. Just let “our” generation dies out, then they can have free reign.

“Start with the Electoral College. It has always deviated from the one-person-one-vote system that most Americans imagine they live in, but demographic shifts in recent years have made its prejudices more conspicuous, culminating in the striking gap between Hillary Clinton’s decisive popular vote victory and her Electoral College loss.”

If Americans believe that it is because the left doesn’t want our children to know the truth about our country and its laws. It only benefits their agenda. What I would propose to this moron is if you think the electoral college is bad, then let’s go to a point system. Every county gets 1 point. If you win the county you get a point. Most points won in the state get the electoral votes. That’s one person one vote.

If he argues against it, you know what his agenda is. It’s the Slimes so we already know, but I use this way of voting to validate. Plus I say it prevents cheating because the firewall exists at the county line, and because counties are smaller, it is easier to manage voter fraud. The left hates this because it exposes them.
