China lodged a diplomatic protest on Saturday after President-elect Donald Trump spoke by phone with President Tsai Ing-wen of Taiwan, but blamed the self-ruled island Beijing claims as its own for the "petty" move.
The 10-minute telephone call with Taiwan's leadership was the first by a U.S. president-elect or president since President Jimmy Carter switched diplomatic recognition from Taiwan to China in 1979, acknowledging Taiwan as part of "one China".
China's Foreign Ministry said it had lodged "stern representations" with what it called the "relevant U.S. side", urging the careful handling of the Taiwan issue to avoid any unnecessary disturbances in ties.
"The one China principle is the political basis of the China-U.S. relationship," it said.
The wording implied the protest had gone to the Trump camp, but the ministry provided no explanation.
Speaking earlier, hours after Friday's telephone call, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi pointedly blamed Taiwan for the exchange, rather than Trump, a billionaire businessman with little foreign policy experience.
"This is just the Taiwan side engaging in a petty action, and cannot change the 'one China' structure already formed by the international community," Wang said at an academic forum in Beijing, China's Foreign Ministry quoted him as saying.
"I believe that it won't change the longstanding 'one China' policy of the United States government."

There is a nice place I know of where they can lodge their complaint.
Is it dark?
hahaha, oh China!. You really think you’ll be able to dictate who the United States talks to on the phone? Get over yourselves. Taiwan elects a government, has a free press and the PRC encourages abortions if it’s your 2nd+ child or if the child is a girl. I think we’ll side with Taiwan on this one. You need us just as much if not more as you need you. Plus, if the United States and the west in general stop innovating whatever will you copy?
Trump:
Thank you for your input, RCA*. I’ll take that under consideration. Please, call me when you have clue.
{RCA = Republic of China, Armed-forces)
(AKA: Red China Armory)
I think the ChiComs are triggered, literally shaking and lodging meaningless diplomatic protests. A good start.
Gee, that’s too bad.
Suck it up Chicoms
Lots of lib pearl clutching going on.
Trump made the world come to an end.
Again.
What does Jack Ma think about this? /LOL
He looks like the alien as it pops out of the guys guts.
Shitlibs triggered, ChiComs triggered, NorKos triggered. Excellent.
BTW, hearing the Bolton position on the Taiwan “dust up” has led me to take a second look at him. I certainly don’t agree with him on many things and I think he’s a war monger but with Trump at the helm does it really hurt to have a tough SOS who himself cannot start wars but can certainly give Trump many options to consider, who is also a firm hand. Trump’s policy isn’t about being weak it’s about not starting wars unnecessarily. Can Bolton show strength, be a tough diplomat and still avoid unnecessarily antagonizing Russia, for example? I’m not sure but it’s something else to consider.
Oh, I think they do more than encourage it.
Please push #1 for English, push #2 for Cantonese, push #3 if you want to lodge a complaint, or just stay on the line, a representative will get with you as soon as possible . . . that will be sometime in January.
So who was the ever so wise US originator of this one China policy? - Hint he farmed peanuts.
Butt hurt alert.
A lot is going to change on the foreign policy front ...
should get some sympathy from imam obama
The subject of Taiwan has been dodged for over 70 years. When Red China was on it’s heels, it should have been dealt with.
Now, it is more complicated but still needs being dealt with, especially now that China is building islands and claiming territorial rights over regional seas.
We are winning again!!! The winning just isn’t going to stop, isn’t this great!!!
