Without bothering to look at the source material, let me stipulate that General Mattis may well have left certain men to die without that fact reflecting badly upon him.

In war, some men will die, but others will live. Hopefully more will live. But you can not have victory without sacrifices.

I suspect there’s much more to this story than what is being presented.

Besides, Hilliary! left four men to die in Benghazi and no one in the media seemed too concerned about it.

Hell, they even helped her cover it up.

Actually she left 40 or more people to die in Benghazi. She may even have been responsible for the attack. But you are right, the media helped promote the “it was a video” story.

“Other witnesses quoted Mattis saying that he didn’t want to send a rescue mission into an uncertain situation.”

It says the area was not secure so I think he went by the book.

Just watched Black Hawk Down for the 30th time...the commander faced a similar situation. These copters are sitting ducks in firefight situations and they will never have a good answer for RPG’s .

And you can’t be a general if you’re not ready and able to make those sacrifices.

Reading the article, the first thing I wonder is whether the Marines had the same equipment for a rescue that the Air Force had. I’m not a military guy so maybe the question is absurd. The article makes plain that the Marines had the nearest helicopters, and that an Air Force unit made the call that they COULD retrieve the wounded, whereas Mattis deemed his Marines unit could NOT. But did the Marines have the same support for such a helicopter mission?
