I don’t think Aldrin had any business being in Antarctica at his age and should be ashamed he caused so much trouble and expense to rescue him

My thought as well. He’s already had more than his share of exciting experiences and exploration. Some people only think of themselves.

I guess he should be wasting away in a nursing home somewhere just waiting to die? Would something like that meet your approval?

Agree, but think it’s in the DNA of astronauts, test & military pilots, NASCAR/Indy drivers, etc. to be thrillseekers who believe they’re indestructible. Aldrin fits that mold. Neil Armstrong, as well — he died under a surgeon’s knife undergoing an elective procedure that was risky for his age.

Incorrect...many have cone there older than he. he just happen to be at the pole when he fell ill, further when the company approach the NSF to ask for the flight it was easy as we were flying there nearly every day as it was, and will do so until mid Feb. You’re talking the retrograde of a planned 600 pounds and we usually come back EMPTY from the pole so there was zero cost. SAFAIR was the company that then flew him north as they were on continent delivering so the trip north to New Zealand was near zero too. Its not what you think.
