In the immediate aftermath of the election, mayors from some of America's largest cities told Donald Trump that they would not comply with any of his planned efforts to shut down their so-called sanctuary cities and they would not enforce federal immigration law.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said his city is “not going to sacrifice a half million people who live among us" by turning them over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Chicago Mayor and former Barack Obama chief of staff, Rahm Emmanuel reassured illegal immigrants that despite their post-election anxieties “you are safe in Chicago.”
The sentiment was echoed by mayors and local officials in other major sanctuary cities across the country including Seattle, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., Santa Fe, N.M., Austin, Tex., Denver, Col. and others.
This defiance was prompted by the high likelihood that Donald Trump will make good on his campaign promise to end sanctuary cities, cut federal law enforcement funding to cities that do not cooperate with ICE, and triple the number of immigration enforcement agents.
According to the Center for Immigration Studies, there are approximately 300 jurisdictions that have sanctuary policies, a number that has increased under the Obama administration. Jessica Vaughan, the director of policy studies at the Center, classifies a sanctuary as any jurisdiction that has a policy, law, or ordinance that actively obstructs immigration enforcement or shields illegal aliens from detection.
According to Vaughan, aside from violations of federal law, the practical effect of the sanctuary policies "is a public safety matter."

We knew the EO could happen.
What we don’t know is how it will be enforced. Sanctions may not be enough. These cities have too much pride and a federal heavy handed approach may look bad.
I agree....but I wonder what the scope of Federal funding is to these cities?
Is it a drop in the bucket, so that it will cause barely a hiccup and they can keep carrying on?
Or is it of such an order of magnitude that it would greatly impact a local budget and therefore prompt change?
Can anyone clarify?
And the American taxpayer isn’t going g to sacrifice more funds to pay a city that ignores the President and the law.
My guess is that these large cities that are run by liberal democrats have to have huge amounts of federal funds to handle all the handouts they give...

I used to laugh at the people who claimed that illegals would "self-deport." But if their freebies are cut off and redistributed to veterans and inner city revival and other places where American citizens need the funds, then... Well, where else would they go but HOME? lol.
This will be interesting to watch, no doubt. I'm not wanting a federal heavy-handed approach either.
You only need to arrest ONE Mayor to cause the others to obey Federal Law.

How can it be legal for Trump, or any president elect, to issue an executive order before has has legally been sworn in?
Sanctuary cities ONLY exist because Obama was not enforcing the many laws. What Trump needs to do is;
1. Enforce the law.
2. Punish by legal means anyone opposing the law.
3. Punish by economic means any government policy or rule that opposes the law.
4. Write the necessary executive orders in support of the above.
5. Remove the Obama executive orders.
....I hope the funds dry up the very first day Trump takes the oath of office.
Sanctuary cities = Drunk driver safe zones.
Illegals never show up for court on their drunk driving charges which are numerous and why would they when they can get off scot free?
Citizens on the other hand get the book thrown at them and pay huge fines along with all the other penalties.
I believe our Seattle libfag mayor said that federal funding was three percent of the budget.
Of course, we have thousands of homeless living in tent cities and under the overpasses.
Actually I live north of Seattle but have conservative friends within the city limits that will no doubt be taxed some more.

Which begs the question: Why is Congress only talking about limiting LEO funding to generate compliance? Why not threaten ALL federal funding?
That’s where the real power is. The left created the leviathan, how about we get some use out of it before we dismantle it.
