The Trump that baffles pundits
American Thinker ^ | 1 Dec 2016 | Thomas Lifson

Some really smart people absolutely cannot grasp what Donald Trump is up to. Perhaps it is that his business background has taught him lessons that punditry, or any profession that depends on well-crafted use of abstract symbols like words and numbers, cannot teach.

Perhaps it is because he seems vulgar in the eyes of many people who pride themselves on their sophistication and intelligence.

Whatever the cause we are hearing that Trump is “irrational” and making it up as he goes along with no plan, just “improv” -- in the words of highly intelligent writers I have long respected.

If you don’t see a pattern to the actions of a highly successful person, I suggest you consider the possibility that your framework is too limited.

Donald Trump is conducting his transition and will conduct his presidency in part as a reality television show, dramas that he concocts and executes. Among the many disciplines that he mastered in the course of his career, reality show TV producer and host is among the more recent, and for politics the most valuable.

That tweet he sent about flag burning was deliberate bait, as Charles Krauhammer, Ann Althouse and Jazz Shaw, among others, recognized. And Trump got images that will only drive support his way and identify Trump hatred with crazy leftists: “Revolution Nothing Less!”

Or take the saga of saving the Carrier jobs. The man is delivering on a campaign promise before he even takes office. He is traveling to Indianapolis today and will get more great visuals. I agree with S.R. Lenzkes on these pages today that this is somewhat dangerous, and could lead to bad things. But this is one case, and is serving a good function.

But the sheer drama of Trump the master persuader saving a thousand families from losing their jobs, with their grateful faces and voices expressing thanks is nothing less than masterful propaganda, delivered at Christmas time. There is a brand being built, called “President Trump.” In the world of business few if any regard Trump as less than the master of branding.-------------Trump delivers...

This is what NN Taleb calls IYI - the “Intellectual Yet Idiot” class.

Trump isn’t considered the right kind of people. Reagan suffered the same indignant response.

He's going to show the left what 'reality' really is..................

They've been slinging this BS since the beginning of the primaries and it's tiresome and makes them look stupid. Trump has consistently put out position papers, and clearly laid out his plans: what he will do and how he will approach it (or else he has explained why it would be dumb to talk about the details at this stage). Voters got it. Voters understood it. Voters said: "I like this guy's plans!!"

Pundits say: "But he has no plan."

Because they are stupid. Taleb is right on: Intellectual But Idiot.

And the same sort of people that happily sidled up to Margaret Sanger to adopt Eugenics as an underlying ideology.

Hillary-Its-Your-Turn never "got it" either. She was advised to run for Obama's third term....and she stupidly took the cockamamie advice.

Obama has a habit of raining on Hillary's parade.

Hillary's debates came off looking good and she looked good after the convention. But her campaign fell off a cliff, after Obama gave her a helping hand.

Obama's obsession for burnishing his (gag) legacy is all he ever thinks about b/c it means big bucks for his foundations.

So his sap-happy "I'm The Greatest" messaging forced Hillary to follow his lead and run for a third Obama term. She no longer ran on change, she ran on Obama's continued progressiveness in a country crying for change.

She lost the election in the final two weeks because of avoidable things like Obama embracing her that sent the electorate a frightening message.

The Royal Idiot's ringing endorsement of Hillary meant many people had moved over to the Trump side.

CAUTION: prolonged viewing causes violent retching.

"I flacked her on AF One and she lost four points.
This frickin' faked pose oughta be good for a point."

I see Hillry Clinton's campaign as that children's poem ‘Humpty Dumpty’...

Hillry Clinton sat on a wall,
Hillry Clinton had a great fall;
All the king's horses and all the king's men
Couldn't put Hillry together again.

Damn straight! I have known about these guys since I was a teenager, but Taleb came up with the right adjective.
