When people kissed the ground at Ellis Island when they got off the ships? When being on welfare was a disgrace? When you could leave your car or house unlocked and nothing happened? When your kids could walk several blocks to school and you didn’t have to worry about some pervert? When people in a neighborhood looked out for trouble makers and took care of problems on their own? When we didn’t have to worry about crackpot judges trying to reshape society along their own model?
