Posted on 11/29/2016 6:53:57 PM PST by ameribbean expat

Reps. Richard E. Neal of Massachusetts and Xavier Becerra of California signaled Tuesday that they will seek the ranking member position. Neal, 67, has a long record of developing bipartisan tax ideas and legislation. Becerra is the outgoing chairman of the House Democratic Caucus.

Becerra, 58, immediately won the support of Levin, who said he planned to promote the Californian.

“I'm backing Xavier,” Levin said simply.

Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga., is the most senior Democrat on the committee after Levin who will be returning in the 115th Congress. He declined to comment on whether he would join Neal and Becerra in the race for ranking member.

I can’t imagine any congressman voluntarily leaving Ways and Means. That’s power.

Yep. Levin is like 105 years old. Old cronies locking up the ranking member positions was a real sticking point with the opponents of Pelosi. Looks like she is in real trouble if Levin is getting the boot.

To a woman in her 70`s ,younger is 67 or 58......I think Ryan meant under 50... Dems still won’t relinquish the little power they have left..Screw the youngsters..We are here till we die....

Good grief. The Democrat Party is the party of dinosaurs. There are only a handful under 60 in the Senate. All the young fire brands in the Bernie crowd are so far Left they prefer the Communist Party, which is a delicious irony.

“Neal, 67, has a long record of developing bipartisan tax ideas and legislation.”

First of all, the libs never did anything bipartisan. Secondly, he’s famous for creating taxes? Then what good is he?

Reasonable assumption but hard to know what’s up.
Everything seems in flux for the House Dems.
I expect Pelosi to win and continue her divisive ‘Identity Politics’ strategy.

Another Rollcall article:
“The chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus has indicated that there are divisions over who members support in the contested election for minority leader between veteran California Democrat Nancy Pelosi and Ohio Rep. Tim Ryan.”

While pundits were gleefully describing the woes of the Republican Party leading up to the election, they admitted afterwards that the Democrats are the party with the larger problem - and having the special interest ethnic groups is a big one. Can they win nationally without a non-white on the ticket going forward? Maybe, considering Hillary won the popular vote (just in the wrong states), but she ran against someone who was seriously damaged by media attacks non-stop leading up to the election itself. In any case, disenchanted blacks played a large role in denying her the White House, and (obviously) she really needed them.

It’s funny. Everything the media said was a problem for the Republicans has turned out to be a problem for the Dems.
‘Identity politics’ doesn’t work on people who think.
People of all races and sexes have concerns beyond their “identity”.

You’re right; suddenly the Republicans were the “big tent” party again and the Dems were the party of government workers and ageing feminazis. The Welfarians didn’t even turn out for them as much this year (thank God).
