Secretary of state says no widespread illegal voting in NM (Not true)
The Albuquerque Journal ^ | Dan Boyd

SANTA FE — Outgoing New Mexico Secretary of State Brad Winter said today state residents can be confident in the outcomes of this month’s general election, disputing a suggestion from President-elect Donald Trump about widespread illegal voting.

Winter, a Republican, said there have been isolated incidents of voter fraud in New Mexico, but said the state has ample safeguards in place to prevent irregularities.

“We have such a great system, because everything is backed up by a paper ballot,” Winter told the Journal after a meeting of the State Canvassing Board.

“There’s nothing on that scale,” he then added, referring to Trump’s claim that “millions” of people voted illegally in the Nov. 8 general election.

This guy (a Republican) is out the door in a few weeks to be replaced by a Democrat who says the same thing plus is an advocate of getting everyone registered to vote.

There is a difference between voter fraud and election fraud, IMO. Voter fraud occurs when a person not entitled to vote is registered and then votes either by absentee ballot, early voting or election day voting.

So anyone can fill out a registration card and have it submitted to local registrars office. No one checks up on the info on it. Lots of Dems pay supporters to get out and get persons to register. Lots of opportunities for chicanery (think ACORN.org last elections).

At the polls (or with an absentee ballot) no ID of any kind is required to cast a vote during early voting or on election day. They ask for name, address and date of birth and you're good to go.

Election fraud is a different matter and I agree that in NM the old (and not so old) electronic machines are not used. You mark a paper ballot and it is electronically tabulated. You have the paper ballots if there is suspicion of a problem.

because everything is backed up by a paper ballot

And what does having a paper ballot have to do with illegals filling out that ballot?

Try South Central Los Angeles.

Teeming MILLIONS of foreigners and NO controls.

Been there seen that. You just walk in, ask for a ballot, they hand it to you, and you go play games.

Oh yes. You do have to sign. Or make an X. They don’t care. As long as you vote Rat.

Ah. No "widespread" fraud, eh? But he acknowledges there WAS fraud.

I guess it depends on how many illegal votes constitutes "widespread".

Exactly. Voter fraud is a subset of election fraud.

Winter confuses voter fraud with election-day fraud.

“I guess it depends on how many illegal votes constitutes “widespread”.”

Of course if its just centered around Albuquerque and Santa Fe, it’s not widespread. It’s pretty centralized.

I was going to quote you almost to the word but saw that this thread wasn’t too long and read the comments first.

People have a difference in opinion when it comes to
“widespread”. OK and I’m smiling, but there’s no space.

Exactly. Voter fraud is a subset of election fraud.

Or vice versa

“We have such a great system, because everything is backed up by a paper ballot,” Winter told the Journal after a meeting of the State Canvassing Board.

Oh bull! And I'll bet you provide ballots in English and Spanish just like we do in VA. Why does a citizen need a ballot in a foreign language? If they were born here English is, at least, one of their native tongues. If they were not born here but have been naturalized they were required to demonstrate a proficiency in English. That proficiency should be more than enough to read a ballot! Having multi-lingual ballots if evidence that illegals are voting...with the consent of the government.

Isn’t this the state where you register to vote by drive in windows? No papers required?

Virginia requires a Drivers License or other government issued ID but big deal. Anyone who can drive can get a license and when you get your license all you do is check a box and BINGO! You’re registered to vote.

I was a volunteer registrar in NM in 2008. No ID required, just fill out a card.

I think it’s easier than that than when you apply for a driver’s license in New Mexico. They ask whether you want to be registered to vote. (New DL provisions have a two tier permit - to be able to fly or get into federal facilities you have to prove legality, others just get a driving permit. Neither demonstrates whether you are a citizen [legal aliens can get a driver’s license too]).

Voter fraud occurs when a person not entitled to vote is registered and then votes

Above misses most vote fraud. It is not helpful.

Voter fraud occurs when one person votes multiple times, voting on behalf of others.

Typically the person committing vote fraud is a Natural Born citizen who either has a job or a contract as a navigator/community organizer. He needs to produce a big vote total to keep the gravy flowing.

The amount of vote fraud by non-citizens is much smaller than that by citizens.
