White House spokesman Josh Earnest says a high-ranking presidential adviser and the top diplomat to Cuba will represent the United States at Fidel Castros funeral.
Earnest is emphasizing that the two are not part of a formal delegation to the service, but the appearance of deputy national security adviser Ben Rhodes and Jeffrey DeLaurentis shows a commitment to an ongoing, future-oriented relationship with the Cuban people. DeLaurentis is awaiting Senate confirmation to be U.S. ambassador to Cuba.

Why?
Well, well, well . .BennyBoy Rhodes...not surprising
Maybe both will love their Paradise so much they’ll permanently stay
Rhodes is a high ranking White House official. Shameful.
They just want to fill their humidors /s
Monica Lewinsky is back in the White house?
Who knew
So does this DeLaurentis guy seriously expect that he’ll get senate confirmation for a two month job.
Attending a funeral is like going to a wedding. You are giving your blessing and if you don’t believe the dead person was due your respect or the couple due your blessing, you do not attend.
Castro was our enemy. We don’t honor his death or his life.
I would send someone from ATF because...cigars.
No need to confirm that ambassador, we won’t be having one after Jan 20th. Smack Cuber with serious sanctions and end the flow of dollars to that imprisoned island.
“future-oriented relationship”
Some people.
Get the bastards on the record.
Yep. Barack needs some smokes.
I know! Laugh track.
OTOH, Rhodes is perfect for this assignment and to greet his comrades in Cuban communism. He will thoroughly enjoy his moment there in the tropical sun, dreaming of cigars and Latin dancing with the guys.
I chuckle every time I hear the name Josh Earnest. No person has been as aptly named for his job as Joshing Earnestly.
If you are trying to normalize relations, at this point, two low level lackeys is the right message. It’s not the Mullah, man-spreading and chewing gum, at least.
However- why are we normalizing relations? If I believe the liberal line, they have better health care and education than us, solar power (also known as frequent power interruptions), and cheap mojitos.
THEY should be normalizing us! What? That was being done for the last 8 years??
Never mind.
Why?
I agree with Senator Cruz — we should not send anyone.
If I were sending someone, it would be a coroner to make absolutely sure he’s dead.
I’d send of newly hired illegal alien street cleaners.
