Everytime I hear or read about this, This Fred Eaglesmith song pops into my head. A song about the seedy side of reservation life.
‘Sovereignty of the Indian.’ For that wondrous blessing you may thank R. M. Nixon who turned theoretical aboriginal law into codified law, which in turn created so-called tribal sovereignty - basing itself on the claim that ‘we (the tribal people) were created here’ and necessitating the removal of any evidence to the contrary - and even silencing any dissenting discussion.
